Even if it was easy to change technically (say, there were constants like MAX_PREFIXES_MAGIC = 1 and MAX_SUFFIXES_MAGIC = 1), what should happen with the item names? All magic items have names derived from its affixes: "prefix item suffix", for example Rose BrandedColossus Blade of Life Everlasting. How should a third affix be added to this format?
A random name should be used instead, like for rares (and crafted)? Magic items are immediately recognized by their names. Replacing them with those nonsensical random names would kill their identity.
volcanic amulet of enlightnment & whale Valkyrie's & jeweler's Tiara of balance
?
That's a solution. Arguably it's cumbersome, though.
Anyway, I'm glad such a naming was not used for rares. Imagine names like D&D's +5 chaotic, distance, ghost touch, holy, mighty cleaving, returning, thundering warhammer...
A bit of day dreaming, but I think Larzuk could be friendlier. And he gives 2 charges of socketing per quest.
On blue he can give 2 or 3 os.
On yellow he can give 1 or 2 os.
Uniques stay at 1 guaranteed.
Could really change the meta !
Can do trades on D2R or D2RotW

But there are some combinations that actually fit together more naturally - like when you have one possessive prefix and one non-possessive prefix. One example could be Artisan’s Lion Branded Circlet of the Magus.
Sounds good. Technically it seems easy-ish - something like group column. But the devs didn't think about such combinations, so balancing it would be challenging, and would very likely require renaming at least some of the prefixes, so the new combinations are balanced and sound well.
Longterm, i would like to make an rare only build for every class. For now i have a Level 79 Cleave (up to) rare only. For sure you dont farm that efficient, while identifying many rares. But farming in general is more joyfull to me since i acknowledge them once again. I need a better rare bodyarmor for example. So when im playing with my high MF builds, every rare bodyarmor is kind of exciting to me now or every two handed sword and so on.
Another idea to make yellow items relevant is to add +class skills prefixes to shields and armor
i would trade my Enigma and Spirit on sorc for the following:
armor
+2 sorc sk
2 sockets
30 lightning res
20 str
60 life
75% poison length reduction
shield in a light base
+2 sorc sk
2 sockets
20 all res
block rate & chance
pdr
mdr
well shield not sure.. could hit 105 fcr with eschuta, Magefist. arachnid's, a 2/20 amulet, and an Opalvein, right?
How about adding 10 / 20 fcr to affixes for armors and shields as well.
I mean, if SpiritMonarch can have 35 for and viper can have 30 fcr, why should a rare shield/ armor not have 10 or 20 fcr?

Rare armours / shields could use an improvement but I think bringing too many unique-specific affixes to rares will really quickly invalidate uniques as bis in all builds

Wouldn't that be a good thing? If a really rare rare item could be as good as a Spirit that only costs mid runes? Let's be frank: Many uniques are not usable and the game is dominated by always the same items, most of them being ridiculously overpowered runewords. If those are rare enough, I personally am welcoming rare items becoming serious BIS contenders.
that would be a good idea, to reach 105 without eschuta and/or Opalvein, especially on the suffix side of the shield, where honestly neither pdr nor mdr are particularly useful. only problem being, another variation further diminishes the chance of the desired roll
