Description

I bought the RotW when it got the discount and I started playing Online for the first time. Once I got to around level 70 with my warlock, I started joining shard games, where the host or someone else uses shards to terrorize multiple acts.

In these games everyone farms a zone. Only one player in a zone, 8 players in a game. So there isn't any interaction. It feels exactly like playing Offline in P8, but this time the better zones are taken by the host or the players who use the shards (
Travincal
,
Chaos Sanctuary
, etc.).

Of course I can still speak with other players, but there are games where half the team is staying in town afk, for the Chronicle progression.

Wouldn't Offline be better, since you can farm all the good zones yourself?

Not if you want the chronicle completion reward(s) to show off to other players online ;)

Also some people just prefer to play online vs offline - but sure, there are advantages of playing offline of course.

I'm in CET (Central European Time)
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.
My profile says Softcore, but I play both Softcore and Hardcore.
My Holy Grail Tracker is for Offline Hardcore.

For a multitude of reasons, online > offline.

For reasons of "more gains" however, "solo P8" > P1.

Since both continue to hold true, you will regularly see players soloing stuff in full games online for farming purposes, with no intention of switching to offline play instead.

It used to be split MF runs or someone soloing CS or
Key
bosses in
Baal
runs. Then it became folks soloing the current TZ in
Baal
runs. And now it turned into split shard runs.

The point is simply to "try to simulate /players 8" for those activities that just make more sense with it (i.e. farming + lvling). But since for many that's not all they do, it doesn't mean they want to or should switch to offline play instead.
If we ever get online /p8, doubtful as it is, those runs would largely fall away and the games left in the lobby (apart from trade games, naturally) would mostly be actual cooperative activities. Would be better for everyone imo though I won't hold my breath for it.
