Description
Besides, it literally has just 3 builds to choose from: fire/eldritch/miasma.
I always liked theorycrafting, chasing some rare items, putting niche runewords together, but with warlock you have 3 options and only items playing into those options. It almost doesn't benefit from any set items, uniques etc that existed prior to this class, so it seems out of place kind of
Compare that to sorc for example, you can do hyda, Passion melee sorc, Nova, Chain Lightning, meteorb, pure Meteor, blizzard, etc. So much more options
Generally warlock just seems half baked. All the items it has just boost warlock skills even further, and only play into those specific builds
Feels much different/out of place compared to other chars.
Has some potential but feels overpowered, boring and kind of like playing like some unfinished beta version. : P
Luckily sunder charms situation is somewhat better with this patch, I literally stopped playing D2 for a few years bc of sunders and Mosaic (because they invalidated lots of original builds, and Mosaic was plain annoying). Removing Mosaic from ladder was one of the primary reasons i tried it again, but warlock is a disappointment.
It kind of gets to a point where you can get into the game and have gg gear after few hours of play, no need for farming, theorycrafting, doing all the cool builds, so in that sense I think d2r is getting worse over the years.
After few hours and no theorycrafting I had a char that can clear the entire game with no challenge. No need to do any trading, making friends in the game etc. Generally the game starts to lose reasons to come back, and a lot of its social aspect.
D2R had a good start with FOH and some other skills that were improved but now it just goes into a really weird chaotic direction. Feels like dev team is rotating every season, and doesn't have its own ideas besides copying modders and taking community feedback literally.
Shards are ok, but let's be honest they copied PD2 mapping design in an inferior way
So imo, Diablo 2 with sunders before RotW: 3/10
D2 LoD: 10/10
D2 RoTW: 6/10
Can be used to make Runewords:
