OK, ready to anger a lot of people, but here goes...

I have been active trader on another site for about 20 years, a site that often there is a BIN. It is is simple convenient, and worked well. 95% of trades completed within minutes of posting an ISO, or responding to a post. On Saturday I had 2x Warlock torches to sell, both transactions completed within 10 minutes of posting. I needed statues, my ISO took 2 minutes.

Lets truly be honest here, the "LF runes" and "Make offer" are really hoping for the offer of 20 Jahs for a 5
Jah
item. You know it, I know it. This has been the way of D2 trading since the dawn of time (yes, going all the way to the dinosaur age). The way it worked when players would try in game trades making games like "
Eth
Titans4trade". Items worth pgems to Puls could maybe, possibly get the trader a HIGH RUNE. The cost to this is that this pushes most traders away, both buyer and seller.

I tried yesterday to use this site, for which the search function is by far the best anywhere. Single reason why it only took me 5 minutes to know I will never use Traderie (OMFG that site sucks). Did complete a trade, because the seller had a BIN. But other sellers, it was just frustrating and a turn off. So I need to post an offer and let them sit on it and think, meanwhile I am going to keep looking. Meanwhile others are completing trades. So am I now obligated to stick with my offer?
Um
no, so the seller can ponder my offer and basically get stuck having to relist for days. THAT is exactly what I saw at this site. Items I did search for had been being listed and re-listed, bump after bump. Buyers not buying, sellers not selling.

This is going to offend many here, but so what. If this site (which has amazing database, awesome forum, great community) is to ever gain steam with their trading, then changes need to be made. That starts with sellers having a clue what to ask for, just posting a *#&$ BIN. More you trade, the more that is offered and can move, the more people will come here to use this site. Simple as that.

I gotta give it to you, I respect bringing a perhaps unpopular opinion when it is something that needs to be said. You’re absolutely right that it is people hoping for an uneducated/exorbitantly rich and doesn’t care buyer.

At the end of the day, it does hurt trading, cause it makes it annoying to quibble or be ignored.

I think the major issue is that we have different groups of users on here with very different interests. Some folks take the approach that 90% of trades need to be cleared within X days or it’s a systemic market failure. Others don’t really mind holding items until an offer comes along, maybe even suggesting a unique trade that hadn’t even occurred to the seller. In the end, it’s a free market system. Those that absolutely will not respond to “LF offers” posts can simply bypass those trades and those sellers can make the call whether those potential losses of customers are enough to warrant a change in approach.

Personally I haven’t had any real issues with moving items even though I frequently post “LF offers.” Now I do agree with other comments that you absolutely have to avoid the radio Silence problem. I try to respond very quickly to any offers so we can get the gap narrowed and either close or move on.

As long as you deal honestly, all forms of exchange are valid. D2.

is a multicultural social media that has members from across the globe. Different cultures often have some subtle differences in how they conduct commerce. In the U.S we expect to find a price tag on everything unless we're looking to sell or buy on Ebay. Asking for offers is a form of barter which is the oldest form of exchange, and more common in some cultures than in others. If you don't feel comfortable presenting an offer for an item then skip past it, and look for a priced item that you're able to afford or are willing to pay. When I encounter an item looking for offers, I will check it's going rate, how long ago it was listed, and if prior offers have been made, and then proceed from there.

Would it help if users were provided a suggested asking price (or low-high range more likely) that they just need to click once when creating the listing? If the problem is that users feel friction determining what to ask for (they don't want to go to the price check page, search for the item, scroll through the history to get a feel for what its worth etc.), then that is potentially something that the site can do something about to reduce that friction. The same could go for the buyer - they're shown prominently what the typical range of offers is. Obviously impossible to do for rare items, for which this site only relies on manual appraisals, but for anything else it could be done (with great difficulty, but possible). I'd have to find a way of finding correlations in the existing data, excluding outliers etc.

How about adding one more toggle option when a seller list an item for trade? For example, something that says "BIN price" or similar?

When a seller list an item, the default would be Bin = off. If the seller has a price in mind that they for sure (haha) would be willing to sell, then they can add a bin price in their post, and toggle Bin = on. Ofc this is more or less Honor/market based, as some high value items may have multiple buyers that are willing to bid over bin, and the seller shouldn't feel obliged to sell to the 1st bin bidder, but instead should educate themselves on item valuation etc. Same as real life anywhere.

This option then becomes a selectable filter button to go along with the current existing ones.

For people that like straightforward in-n-out trading process, they could easily filter for "Bin" trades. For people like to take their time browse through existing trade to find hidden treasures, they could choose the opposite.

Personally I find BIN price handy when buying daily use items, and I expect it to facilitate those trades to go quicker.

For high value items, asking for offers is more common, as a perfect or near perfect item can be valued drastically differently from player to player. Without a bin, or with a fairly high bin just makes it a soft auction that may take days to deal, but it could be worth it.
