man i've been running for the last 4 days trying to find an Archon Staff to make an Obsession - i play about 1-2 hours a day.
finally found one last night, it was blue. I cry

This is one of those extremely fun items to pick up. The option for +3 to your main skill and +3 to that branch’s mastery is totally insane. I can't fathom how rare that combo must be but I have found a couple staves which are worthy of Obsession offline.
Having it Eth seems even more interesting for Warlocks with the various stuff using the weapon base attack value, no ?

I think Obsession is only used for the spell Warlocks (Chaos skills). So the damage on the weapon does not matter and War Staff (that can have 6 sockets) and Rune Staff are options that are total equal to Archon Staff.
For weapon-based Eldritch Warlocks there are better items than Obsession. These should indeed be Eth, yes (well-rolled Insight, high-end Eth BotD etc.). An Archon Staff is a good base for a BotD, although there are better ones for an Eldritch Warlock.

i did find an 11% enhanced damaged ethereal Decapitator last night. That will turn into a Death at some point and I'll either level an eldritch warlock or a Fury druid to use it. I think it would be fun to have a Fury druid for ubers!

Wow, an offline Mang's. Very rare and useful now, for the first time ever.
When searching for rune bases make sure you remove all magic find. For Archon Staff farm high level areas like the Chaos Sanctuary, Pits, Worldstone Keep and TZ areas.
