It's rare, but it's not THAT rare. It's just RNG, as always.
I played a couple of hours of TZ yesterday and I found several Archon Staffs, 2-3 at least (didn't count). As the dumbass I am, I ditched them all cause I didn't stop to consider the possibilities with Obsession & Warlock. Ah well. I'll try to remember to keep them from now on. But I'm sure they'll stop dropping now that I'll be paying more attention

Plan A for many Warlock players seems to be to buy a Mang Song's Lesson to go down the fire route.
Plan B is making an Obsession for all (?) other Warlock builds. Archon Staff and Rune Staff are the ideal choices. (War Staff might only get 5 sockets if it drops very early.)

Not quite. For most other builds, Obsession still isn't the top choice. Or even close. There are like 1 or 2 where it might be (close at least) but I have yet to see anyone run those.
Even Mang Song's died down though as hardly anyone runs fire it seems.
And those few that do just keep sabotaging Baal runs by spamming that stupid aoe knockback the entire time...ugh...

To be fair it's a super rare drop. Only ones with 15% fire are going for high amounts.
I still have an unid Mang Song's Lesson . Highest offer I got before putting it down was 2 Jah. I decided to keep it because I am still not sure what I want to play and one of my sons really likes the "Fire Nova"

I'm running Fire at the moment. It's very strong. A huge 17 yards aoe blast with about 15k damage (with a consumed Tainted Demon but without a Warlock torch) right now and massive enemy fire resistance reduction (plus Infinity, Phoenix shield as I don't have Ars Al'Diabolos and Flickering Flame).
I guess there are probably even better Warlock builds out there, but Fire Warlock, although not maxed out by far, is even faster than Fire Sorc and Fire Druid.
Anyway, it's quite disappointing that staves (and other 2H weapons) have started to be even considered as viable weapons only when they became 1H (for warlocks). Otherwise, the "sword and board" setup beats them because two stat sticks are always better than one.
Artificially blown up prices at traderie.. Sorry to speak bold, but imo whoever pays this price has no idea about this game. Only chance to have War Staff and Rune Staff with 5 OS is when they drop from monsters lower than lvl 25, which excludes Rune Staff drops. Other option is that they got rerolled with Recipe: Normal Quality Weapon of Same Type, but then, Archon Staff may also get 5OS. So in the end, you can't be sure what they roll if purchased from unreliable sources that traders are.
Just do some Cows in Hell and wait for any of the three dropping, then Larzuk. Did the same with eth WS, cause it looks cool. I just threw away a plain Archon Staff while pondering about trying to give it 6os with Recipe: Add Sockets to Normal Weapon, but ended up deeming it not worthy wasting Perfect Amethyst and Ral

On Traderie they do, especially if they already have 6 sockets. Investing a few open Larzuk quests would help to sell them quickly for Jah+. Lots of Jah+ trades in the last days.

I think that's right. With good gear and consuming a simple Tainted you should get more than -100% to enemy fire resistance. Obsession has more FCR, life, mana and resistances. However, Mang Song's Lesson has more skills (+5 instead of +4), still Obsession wins most of the time, I guess.
