25 bucks is nothing in the current landscape & economy. An upsized meal already cost me half that.
Still stuck in 1998 ?
You get what you paid for with the OG, then stick with it but don't be whining about why the dev abandon the game.
This is exactly why a company (Not a charity) does not want to continue adding more because of such mindset.
New playable class? hell yes
+ all the QOL cherry on top.
I was really expecting an integrated MTX store.
Nevertheless they FINALLY added D2r to the steam database! This is HUGE for NewBlizz...to embrace the new reality that bnet is seconded when it comes to games platform. STEAM is where the $$$ is...the reach is to the millions.
The purchase was made with the quickness.
Note: Not a fanboi and this was a purchase made based on MERIT. I felt the Passion from the video.

For me personally, the QoL improvements alone would justify that price. I'm glad it's a one-time purchase and not some kind of subscription.Tornado_OLO wrote: 7 hours agoAm I the only one thinking 25€ for a new char, a bunch of news items and a new endgame activity is expensive ? 25€ is half of the price of a complete PC game.
I'm sorry but I disagree.
Compare the price for that "expansion" and the price of a complete game.
That's nothing more than a simple DLC with a poor content for 25€/$.
Don't get brainwashed by greedy video game companies.
My timezone is CET/UTC+1.
This is what economists call a "mixed calculation". The old guys (D2R) with the money have to pay so that the youngsters can afford their "cheap" D4 (addon)
After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)

I've spent more on other ARPGs, free with paid mtx and otherwise, stand-alones SP like the excellent Goated E33 so no comparison required.Tornado_OLO wrote: 3 hours agoI'm sorry but I disagree.

My disagree for this item is too few content. If they can add more act or new things like more journey like red door or Enchant weapon like d3.
That would sounds like a thing. Even so, it is still not good enough.
LoD feel like another chapter , the world increase another step.
If they call this first step , it can be ok but for me I need to see more entertainment.
I see this DLC more like a fund raiser. If they can use it to build another world , meaning act 6-10 , I would lovely to pay 50 usd for that. act 6-10. Each chapter is like A1-A3.... A4 kind of looks like unfinish work to me.(even a4 alone, it still way better than this.)
Favor Perfect Amethyst over Perfect Skull...
These days, I don't need that much Perfect Skull, it is less encourage to pay in Perfect Skull but it will treat slightly better than Perfect Gems.

Yes i know, bad puns...
Just as most of my chars.
(smiter named Turbulentpriest, blizzard sorc called Hailey, ltng Fury amazon called Zeusan, ThrowMeaBone necro, Rocky the warcry barb(he's a singer, so he's a ROCKER...) and so on...)
.
And about the pricetag? Just getting the QoL improvements easily justifies the price.
Remember, last 25 years, 100% inflation...

BLIZZARD ITSELF is handling it very differently in Diablo 4.
Paradox - one of the greediest gaming companies - is handling it differently.
And neither Clair Obscure, nor BG3 nor Diablo 4, nor Stellaris were released in 1998.
I've no idea if you are incapable of English or if you have some mental deficencies.

I fully agree with this. You have to pay developers to work on games, therefore you need to Charge for expansions. This is a lot of big and GREAT changes to d2. Well worth the price.Skaijuice wrote: 3 hours ago25 bucks is nothing in the current landscape & economy. An upsized meal already cost me half that.

Dispatch was 25 bucks for an 8 hour game, reign of the warlock will easily generate hundreds of hours of playtime for me for the cost of a pizza.
Well worth it

Just dont mistype so it becomes DemonoftheFail...
Oh yes... FINALLY i will have some SPACE left over on my characters! I literally had one stashtab just for runes, and had to make an entire character just for gems.
And only reason i had not also made a character just for runes(i already had him planned as Runar the druid(Runar is a real first name, so yeah, yet another bad pun)) was because i haven't had time to play much last 6 months.
But more space means it will be much easier to shift gear, which means that when i play i can spend most of the time actually playing instead of just getting a char's gear ready.
Lol - that would would be a pun if intended. . . no typo for certain.FULCRUM75 wrote: 2 hours agoJust dont mistype so it becomes DemonoftheFail...

The price tag bumps my excitement as well but it's hard for me to rationalize. My main issue is probably that I'm not excited about the new character.
It also depends what you compare it with.
- Hundreds of hours of fun vs. a pizza -> great price
- 25€ for some QoL vs. 13€ you paid for D2R on discount -> WTF?!
- 25€ now for 1 char and some new content vs. 40€ in 2001 for LoD (2 chars, a new act, runes and runewords, QoL, ...) -> quite reasonable after inflation
My biggest fear is that if this is successful, Blizzard will shove a "mandatory" new dlc every few month for that price. This monetization strategy completely took the fun out of Hearthstone for me.
So, objectively I think the price it totally fair (assuming the quality is alright). The developers working on this content have families to feed.
Me personally, I'll wait for it being on discount since I'm in no hurry to play the new char and am not running ladder next season.

D2R is nothing but a highly complex paper doll dress up simulator.
I've got 100+ crafted amulets (from cheap to gg). Let me know what you are looking for.

The gaming industry is more expensive than it was last year, 5 years ago, 10 years ago, (etc.). Yes, there are fantastic gaming deals (per hour of gameplay) like BG3 (awesome value for what you get, no paid DLC, everything included), Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (game of the year for many), and many games out there are "good deals" per hour of gameplay (and content). But every developer is different in what they can offer based on the company (share holders) and overall financial situation. Yes, Blizzard has plenty of money, they don't need to Charge $25 for this content and would still make money from ther Activision Call of Duty series, WOW, D4, Immortal (makes massive dollars), Candy Crush (etc.). Although unfortunetely that's not how it works. The people creating the content face pressure from the higher up's to produce money. If D2R developers were to create this content and not make money -- they would be faced with serious questions of "why" and could easily be fired. The developers have to constantly think about ways to make money -- pressure from up top -- or they will NOT get the green light to make content like this.WedgeAntilles wrote: 4 hours agoTHANK YOU!Tornado_OLO wrote: 7 hours agoAm I the only one thinking 25€ for a new char, a bunch of news items and a new endgame activity is expensive ? 25€ is half of the price of a complete PC game.
I thought to myself: I can't be the only one who realizes how expensive this is.
We get a few QoL features, that other devs include for free.
And we get a new character. Which is something like a 10 buck DLC.
25 bucks for a new playable class and some QoL improvements is insanely expensive.
And if we are not willing to pay 25 bucks, we get ZERO. Nothing. Absolutly nothing.
I can't believe it, but PARADOX - Paradox, of all companies - is doing a way more customer friendly job with Stellaris. Every new DLC is prices between 15 to 25 bucks, depending on the amount of new content. But parts of the content is free for everybody. So you always get improvements to the game. New features, new stuff to play with. But if you want to get the full flavor, you have to pay.
I don't have a problem spending $25 for this. I think it's totally worth it. In the gaming industry, sure there are content "deals" like
A game like Clair Obscure charges 45 bucks - for a huge and amazing game.
An even bigger game like BG3 charges 60 bucks.
Both offer a hundred, a thousand times the content of this new DLC.
Or if you want to compare it to Diablo 4 - Diablo 4 is 70 bucks. For a whole game, a lot of quests, story (yes, the story is horrible, but it is there) and 5 playable classes.
And if we take a look at the Lord of Hatred Expansion: 40 bucks and you get 2 new classes. A complete new region. A new story arc. New endgame challenge.
AND the quality of life improvements are for EVERY PLAYER, even if he doesn't but the expansion. That is a fair deal.
(Again, I can't believe I use Diablo 4 as a GOOD example for anything)
For Diablo 2 Blizzard asks for 25 bucks for a single playable class. No new areas, no new quests, nothing.
And everybody is celebrating like Blizzard announced that they found a Cure for cancer.
This DLC is severly overpriced, even compared to other Blizzard products.
And icing on the cake is that player who won't buy it get absolutly nothing. Again, Blizzards own policy with D4 is different.
D2 player get ripped off severly - and they cheer for it.
No wonder the gaming industry is in such a sorry state as it is.
I won't buy it and I wish they would have charged 50 bucks for it. I guess they wouldn't sell a single copy less.
Keep in mind, skins in D4 are like $20 plus dollars, cosmetic content packs over $50. Blizzard developers have to justify the time spent on D2, by charging as much as they can. In contrast, the three developers from Hollowknight Silksong can decide to Charge nothing for DLC. It's corporate greed, share holders, and based on that there is NO WAY we get D2R content for free or for a super low price. Looking back at D3, the necromancer pack was $15. I don't think it's crazy to Charge $15 for a new character. You said, I think $10 would be more fair, not going to argue. But, again its about making as much money as they can, and walking that fine line of not pissing everyone off.
And I don't think $10 for the extra stash tabs (interface), char slots, and holy grail recording is crazy at all. The quality of life upgrade with the inventory, is going to make D2R a much better game -- and for many players will be more important than the Warlock being added. From a consumer stand point, it would have been more friendly to Charge a separate amount for the Warlock ($15) and inferace changes ($10). But again, it's about making money -- no sugar coating it.
Bottom line, is if we don't pay for content with D2R -- we will get very little or nothing. I personally would rather pay for content (even if its subjectively over-priced), then get no content at all.
For me, it really depends on what I'm paying for. I think $25 is reasonable for what we get here. They charged D3 less for a new class, but that's all you got, a class. Here, we got a class and some other additions.Glowhawk44 wrote: 2 hours agoBottom line, is if we don't pay for content with D2R -- we will get very little or nothing. Blizzard being such a trash company could have charged us $60 knowing that people would clearly pay for it.
That being said, I've seen plenty of things like them charging $90 for 1 SINGLE mount in WoW... that's more than the game costs.
Really unfair comparison.
What I meant is just like when that Blizzard "abandoned" D2 classic when they launched LoD - no new items or affixes (runewords were not a thing in classic for me to rant about it).
It is basically a "fys" to whoever was expecting the loot filter/holy grail/gem or rune stacking to be implemented in D2R.
I think it is fair to Charge for a new class and a new act (not part of the package though, which greatly decreases its value). Not for quality of life implementations.
25$? Sounds good to me. I will take 3 (one for my main account, and two for my mule accounts).
Remember, other live service games get shut down after a few years. D2 has been running for 25 years.
Remember, other live service games get shut down after a few years. D2 has been running for 25 years.
I'd happily pay double that amount if they added a new act, even a short one like Act IV is. It would be overpriced but at least I would be paying for new content and supporting the game.Tornado_OLO wrote: 7 hours agoAm I the only one thinking 25€ for a new char, a bunch of news items and a new endgame activity is expensive ? 25€ is half of the price of a complete PC game.
I don't feel good mostly paying for stuff that should have already been implemented in D2R ages ago - when they just needed to ask for permission from people that did it for free on the mod community.
I decided to wait and see if Blizzard adds something new to D2R:RotW later before buying it. Not joining the obviously paid influencers hype on this.
