Guys, switch to Linux, it's working fine ~~

A tip to avoid that: if you are bnet friends with the trader, you don't need to switch servers manually. You can enter their game via invite or right click name on in game friends list if they have their games set to joinable. Only reason to manually switch servers is if you want to see the public lobbies from other regions.Arro27 wrote: 1 month agoSame. This may sound weird, as I am exiting the game anyways, but instead of closing it crashes for a minute then finally closes if I don't force close first.
Even if you kill the app with task manager it will make you lose so much time!
Usually looking for Runes, Essences, PGems, Tokens, Keys, etc.

Yeap I know about this but most of the times I don't have trade people as friends.justinman114 wrote: 1 month agoA tip to avoid that: if you are bnet friends with the trader, you don't need to switch servers manually. After January 13th, 2032, when my Win10 IoT LTSC will stop receiving security updates.
By the way, check if you can also unpack game files in Linux to speed up loading. I'm very curious how this works on Unix systems, and I'm especially interested in multiboxing.
Good day to you partner!
Do you happen to use a KVM to switch to other PC while still running the game? Or do something that temporarily disconnects the displays while the game is running?MintBlancmanche wrote: 1 month agoanyone else having problems? stupid game crashes like 50/50 when I hit esc>options or just exit, either ingame or in the menu lol.
I've noticed the game seems to crash 100% of the time after switching back but only if you try to open options. It's a fast crash too, no freezing.
The freeze on exit happens from time to time regardless of whether I did KVM switch mid-game.
I just looked it up, good to know, thank you. I've been running it in a Windows 10 VM myself.
To me it started today. I upgraded to Win11 25H2 and also NV 581.57, and this time the studio driver instead of game ready. It's more stable they said... now installing GR driver and giving my comp a reboot too, to see if things improve.

I sometimes hit windows Key to jump to my 2nd screen to change movie/serie, but the game still freezes even if the 2nd screen is off. (no problem doing the same in WC3)
its just blizzard being blizzard.

Adding to my previous response, and going a bit offtopic, in my mind I was ranting about the following for a couple of hours:justinman114 wrote: 1 month agoA tip to avoid that: if you are bnet friends with the trader, you don't need to switch servers manually. 1. People (including me) don't want to add others as friends to do trades or in general due to the terrible user management bnet has. I used to play Hearthstone, and when I quit I was left with dozens of people I never interacted with again. I had to remove them one by one and took me DAYS to get it done.
2. I remember Hearthstone also crashing A LOT when I played, not only D2R. I also remember that community meme-calling Blizzard "small indie company" - I guess it cheks out
My PC is algo high end, I am not complaining from a 2005 Pentium lol
Yeah same, my PC is super high end, just built it last year, and I know it isn't the reason for crashes. I haven't had any issues with other games or programs. As for the friend list thing, I guess it doesn't bother me having a ton of people I've traded with as friends. It's cluttered but I can put certain friends as favorites to keep them at the top. Some people will just remove me as a friend after trading, which is also fine, I just think at least the temp add is nice to be able to join each other and also chat in the app.Arro27 wrote: 1 month agoAdding to my previous response, and going a bit offtopic, in my mind I was ranting about the following for a couple of hours:justinman114 wrote: 1 month agoA tip to avoid that: if you are bnet friends with the trader, you don't need to switch servers manually. Running Linux (Arch and Manjaro) for 8 years now, both at work and home. Not a single system crash on any of my three systems since then. D2r crashed a few times, but that's not Linux' fault. My wife uses it for everything. My mother as well (and shes over 70 now and has no idea what pcs are about)

The problem is that the friend list extremely buggy once you reach 400+ friends (not sure exactly where the breakpoint is), so you need to keep it decently tidy. I had over 500 people on my friend list at one point, all D2R related. Invites starts bugging out, people appear offline despite being online, and more issues. I hadn't bothered "cleaning" my friend list in the longest time so the list just kept growing, but eventually I got fed up with all the issues and had to do a major clean-up, removed several hundred people... (most of which were people I had never interacted with more than once for a trade or giveaway)justinman114 wrote: 1 month ago...for the friend list thing, I guess it doesn't bother me having a ton of people I've traded with as friends.
I'm in CET (Central European Time), so that's UTC+1 normally and UTC+2 during DST.
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.
My profile says Softcore, but I play both Softcore and Hardcore.
My Holy Grail Tracker is for Offline Hardcore.

Interesting, I was unaware. I think I'm around 240 so haven't seen that yet lmaoShadowHeart wrote: 1 month agoThe problem is that the friend list extremely buggy once you reach 400+ friends (not sure exactly where the breakpoint is), so you need to keep it decently tidy. D2r having issues? no way! cant be! that must be woke lies! absolutely not, there is zero chance really. Trust me bro.
I never change c the sound while playing which is likely the reason I did not encounter this issue. But for me, it regularly crashes when I close the game.
I also have an issue that the display life/mana numbers on orbs randomly toggles on and off. Does any one else has this issue?

According to that guide those files take 40-45 GB of disk space unpacked. So I guess this is the issue? But getting rid of those loading times would significantly improve the gaming experience.ghostpos wrote: 1 month agoThanks @d2jsp I think my initial question is more around the original design choice to 'pack' the files. We know it comes at this cost of longer load times but does it save on storage or something?

Have both of those as well. But the crashing on exit started only few weeks ago. Did you always have it or also just lately?vued wrote: 1 month agoI never change c the sound while playing which is likely the reason I did not encounter this issue. Ironically, the orb thing seemed to have stabilised in recent weeks - but could as well be just random/coincidence...

The orbs themselves are toggles. Try clicking the life/mana orb, it toggles the display on/off. It’s not a bug that causes it to be turned off, it’s you accidentally clicking the orb in the heat of the moment during chaotic/intense gameplay moments. Happens all the time for me because I’m not actually good at the game and tend to click chaotically everywhere when I panic and try to get out of a sticky situation, but you can just turn it back on by clicking whichever orb it was. The fact that it feels like it happens more/less than before is probably because you’re playing a different class/build lately or have geared up significantly to be able to have a more comfortable/laidback playstyle.sTonedmason wrote: 1 month agoIronically, the orb thing seemed to have stabilised in recent weeks - but could as well be just random/coincidence...

That's... indeed a sophisticated explanation. Never realized that clicking the orbs toggles this. Kinda neat, actuallyShadowHeart wrote: 1 month agoIt’s not a bug that causes it to be turned off, it’s you accidentally clicking the orb in the heat of the moment during chaotic/intense gameplay moments.
Not sure about erratic clicking during gameplay but I occasionally do some untargeted clicking back into the game window when splitting on a ultrawide monitor and/or using multiple monitors.
