(came back to post this - how's everyone doin? Busy on the new ladder I reckon?)
Feels nice to have some kind of acknowledgement...but something tells me never to rest too much on expectations from NewBlizz.

Tbh, I dont personally care. D2r is dead in my eyes and I just hop in once in a while to play. Nothing could make me return to it as deeply as I was back in the day.
Yeah we got a thread going here for a week or so, there's a couple of other tidbits like job listings, focus group questions etc: forums/possible-d2r-update-on-the-way-i ... 99155.html

Very much so...much of that motivation is depleted or gone.Semirotta wrote: 5 months agoTbh, I dont personally care. D2r is dead in my eyes and I just hop in once in a while to play. Nothing could make me return to it as deeply as I was back in the day.
How do you resurrect something that is already twice dead?
It's gonna take a lot.

Wouldn’t call it dead — just look at the ladder, it’s packed with players. Sure, we don’t know exactly how many are bots, but there’s still a solid and active player base.Semirotta wrote: 5 months agoTbh, I dont personally care. Honestly, it annoys me when people throw around “dead game” without understanding what that even means. Take Quake 3 for example — it’s had under 500–1000 players for years. Most active players know each other by name, and we still run pugs and lobbies every day. That’s far from dead.
Meanwhile, D2 has way more fans, way more players. People always chase “big numbers,” but that’s not what makes a game alive.
If you’re enjoying it, play it.
If not, move on.
Stop acting like other people’s enjoyment depends on some arbitrary metric.

Hard to take the term "dead" literally. But i agree with him being "dead" because of lack of *REAL* updates from the dev. Nothing has been added to the game that attracts players - short of an economy reset. And what is telling is when I don't get spammed by bots when entering lobby...yeahhhh that's when its become abandon ware. There is irony in the truth however. Even the trade forums here is a shadow of it's former self.aeh wrote: 5 months agoWouldn’t call it dead — just look at the ladder, it’s packed with players. So i don't blame it on players who jump ship to other titles and spending their monies or time there to a more active Dev that responds.
In fact, rather than giving a high slash down of the title (cheapening it), they should seriously explore the possiblity of implementing some form of MTX because i'm sure as heck people would not complain of adding more char slots, stash tabs. If even 20,000 active players and a fraction of them spent some $$$ - you get some injection of funds in to at least employ a small team to make sure things get updated or running good.
Anyway...it's good to have some kind of update and this seems to be the most concrete in ..forever.

Hear hear. Some of us are still playing this game, some of us are on ladder, some are off-ladder, some are offline.
I hope to see some content thrown our way but I'm not holding my breath or anything.

I totally get that point of view — if someone’s not enjoying the game anymore, it’s perfectly fine to move on. But just because you’ve lost interest doesn’t mean the game is dead.Skaijuice wrote: 5 months agoHard to take the term "dead" literally. There’s a big difference between “not for me anymore” and “no one plays this.”
And like I said with Quake 3 — that game hasn’t had an update since, what, 2006? May 8th, I think. Yet it’s still alive because of the players, not the devs.
It’s not always up to the company to “keep a game alive.”
It’s the people who still enjoy playing it that do.
A great example from the Diablo 2 world is Project Diablo 2 — a community-driven mod that completely revitalized the game for tons of players. No official updates, but the Passion of the community made it feel fresh and alive again.
Maybe we’ll see something similar for D2R down the line — who knows? But that just proves the point:
it’s not always about official content, it’s about people caring enough to keep playing and building around a game.

It's actually plateaud steadily around 5-6k active trades for several years (after the initial hype, and in recent 6 months the number of daily sales here has actually been climbing. I wouldn't use the trade forums here as an indicator of game activity anyway - most volume still moved through jsp and Traderie - as has always been the case
The community is still here, and some of us are super excited to see updates for D2R!
Good example of that, is HOMM3.aeh wrote: 5 months agoAnd like I said with Quake 3 — that game hasn’t had an update since, what, 2006? May 8th, I think. Yet it’s still alive because of the players, not the devs.

Even older than D2, but the community is still BIG.

I think we do it by tapping into our memories to resurrect ourselves, and then we breath new life into Diablo 2 and Blizzard is the beneficiary.Skaijuice wrote: 5 months agoVery much so...much of that motivation is depleted or gone.Semirotta wrote: 5 months agoTbh, I dont personally care. Sounds like maybe u just gotta mix it up with some other games once in awhile dude. Or, just like life in general, sometimes it happens when you dont have a specific goal in mind. Like leveling a certain character to such and such point, grinding for so and so rune/item, running Ubers to chase a decent (maybe perfect?) torch, etc.
Without a goal things become aimless and when things become aimless thats when they often get boring.

Updates and QoL would be cool but it was never about those things Skai, you know that too bud. I personally don't understand where is all this 'hate' coming from, you were an active member of this community (seen you often in the forums), I think we traded several times too and I thought you enjoyed the game same as we all do.
To be completely honest, this is gonna bury me but let's say it in less conspicuous way, I played old D2 for a veeeery long time (for about 10 years if not even more) on v1.07 and never went with newer update until D2R. It was never about new content (at least for me), I love and will always love D2 for what it is -- an amazing RPG game way ahead of its time! Every new journey, every new character/build is a different experience, even tho maps/quests are same, even when you do the exact same build it's always different. It's built on "it can be whatever you make it to be" principle and that's the whole wisdom.
You just play at your own pace... You farm, you rush, you do ladder, you try out weird builds, you experiment or help others, make huge giveaways or reroll stuff to get that sweet perfect roll or do whatever the heck you want. It's actually quite beautiful when you stop for a bit and think about it.
Diablo 2 will never die because it has the most awesome community ever -- where everyone wants for everyone else to have the same amount of fun and nostalgia as each of us have!
I wouldn't lose interest (and probably I'm speaking in the name of many of us) even if they completely abandoned it and left it as it is (or was) and never returned to it... People would still play and enjoy it like they did 25 years ago.
I do hope you'll find the interest in D2 again in the future, if not I wish you all the best gaming with whatever you choose to play. Cheers mate!

Someone much smarter than me already said once: "The real value of something doesn't reflect in a number of how much a seller can ask for it, but on how much a buyer is willing to pay."
To be honest, I don't even see the relevance of the "game is dead" narrative.TheDoo wrote: 5 months agoUpdates and QoL would be cool but it was never about those things Skai, you know that too bud. Unless you play primarily multiplayer, which seems like enfranchised player behavior to me (and only a portion of them, at that), who cares how many others are playing? And pretty much the same is true about updates: games don't need a constant stream of content to be enjoyable. Games that do that have completely different goals, connected precisely to maintaining an online player base active. Hell, the whole reason D2R happened was because people kept playing D2 for years regardless of updates. I've never once played a bit of Tetris and thought "I wonder when they're going to update this dead game?" It just sounds like something you say if you are, let's say, an entrenched inhabitant of online spaces.
Sometimes people just get a bit caught up in their own emotional state and project that out, speaking as if they were describing the world instead of themselves.
As long as Shadowheart's giveaway continues, the game cannot die
Main: Necromancer / Second: Assassin / Third: Amazon / Check my stash, my crafts and my many cheap Annihilus
My problem is that I cant play anything alone, its just not interesting. Thats why d2r is one of those games I do continue from time to time due to being able to play with others and chit chat. I love to boost people around for example and help in when ever I can with what ever I can. Though now as I dont have Teleport ( no Enigma luck this season so far ) so even all that has been kind of not happening as much as Id like.BigD wrote: 5 months agoSounds like maybe u just gotta mix it up with some other games once in awhile dude. I also do put a goal of sorts; the Enigma. That is always my goal as I know 9 out of 10 times it isnt happening, but even with goal like this it does get a bit grindy and very boring repetitive garbage in the long run. It is unfortunate, because this game is not for casual players like me.
What I mean by not for casual players like me is that players need to farm 1000+ runs in one place to get one good drop basically (with my luck at least) and that takes more time than I play in whole season :'D
But I did start playing ASKA to get some change from D2r, its still not d2r. Im just a Diablo fan and cant stop playing these games even if they bore the heck out of me.
