Hi

The
Recipe: Low Quality Rare Item of Same Type
is widely used to try to create good rare
Diadem
(as it may roll with any affix even with iLvl 1 - because of the magic level and quality level)

You could instead dump a lot of gold on Gamble and try to get some rare
Circlet
/
Coronet
(as long as you have enough level to guarantee L90 affixes - L92 in the case of
Circlet
and L87 in the case of
Coronet
)

On paper the second option seems cheaper 🤔:

- gamble:
1
Ist
= 10 MM gold = ~59 "magic/rare shots" =~ 5.9 "rare shots"
OBS:
- You have ~10% chance to gamble a rare item.
- I'm considering the gamble cost of
Coronet
at L92 (~$168 gold). You can get even more "rare shots" if you gamble a
Circlet
(~$119 gold) and/or if you use Edge or
Gheed's Fortune
to reduce the prices. And a litle few shots with a higher level ... (as the price will increase a little...)

- Recipe:
1
Ist
= 14-20
Perfect Skull
= ~2.3 - 3.3 "rare shots"

As
Perfect Skull
is not used for other things... shouldn't the demand for gold be higher than the demand for
Perfect Skull
? Or am I missing something?
(it seems to me that is easy to buy/sell
Perfect Skull
and sometimes you struggle to buy/sell gold...)

(And as far as I known as long as you have enough Level to roll all affixes that you want on a
Circlet
, a
Diadem
will only give you a little more defense in comparison 🤔)

Judging from the piles of gold left untouched in high level games...

yup. You got your answer there.

Unless they allowed monetization to buy pets that auto picks up gold... :P

Tell me more 🤔

The only infinite money trick I remember involves the "Holiday special effect" that cut prices by 50%. But who knows when it will happen again...

What do you mean by this?
You mean that to gather piles of gold efficiently you need a specific build (and maybe specific farm spots)?
This looks to me as a good explanation why
Perfect Skull
are more common on trades than gold 🤔🤔
On my personal plays (which are not focused on farm Gems or Gold and include many areas), I could gather enough
Perfect Skull
to trade for
Ist
many times, but only once or twice reached 10 MM to sell 🤔🤔

I don't think this is good reason... You can upgrade the rare to Exceptional (
Tiara
) and then Elite (
Diadem
) 😉

A gold find barb running
Travincal
can make over half a million gold per run. Not to mention probably find some good stuff at the same time too.

I'm in CET (Central European Time), so that's UTC+1 normally and UTC+2 during DST.
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.

It still works 😮
But find a item that gives a huge return may be a little more trick... and take some time and tries...
I made a test with a Fool's
Morning Star
. You can bought it for 1.8K and you can sell, with the trick, for 4K 😉🤑

Not in the case for rare items... rares can roll with up to 2 sockets (magics can have up to 4, 3 in the case of
Diadem
)

For rare items, it's a combination of the base, its ilvl, and the affixes. Sockets on magic/rare items come from a prefix (Mechanic's = 1-2, Artisan's = 3, Jeweler's = 4), though a prefix can never add more sockets than what the base allows. For rare items, only the Mechanic's prefix is available. Artisan's and Jeweler's are only available on magic items. Therefore, rare items can never have more than 2 sockets, regardless of the base.

Only
Mechanic's Add 1-2 Sockets
can appear on rare items
Artisan's Add 3 Socketd
Jeweler's Add 4 Sockets
Can only appear on magic items

And cube formula or
Larzuk
quest will only add 1 socket to rare items.

Base just cap the max sockets (a Jeweler's
Diadem
will have 3 sockets, a Mechanic's
Wand
can only have 1 socket)

This is obvious intentional exploit of a bug, which Blizzard's ToS explicitly calls a cheat.
Blizzard wrote:

Do it at your own risk. I don't think there's actually much risk of being banned for this, but I'm not an authority on the matter so don't quote me on that.
