If u plan to use Insight Act2 merc or Plague Act 5 then Mancatcher because it's around 20% faster then Matriarchal Spear and this IAS diff outperforms +3 skiller on java spears.
If u have Faith Act1 merc then Matriarchal Spear because you will reach max Matriarhal Spear IAS breakpoint even with the worst Fanatism roll on Faith.
Depending on how you go about your gear, even without fana, you will often have an attack speed difference of 1 frame between the two at which point a +3 matri Spear may well still just barely outperform a Mancatcher.
('Barely' meaning it is so close that you may as well call it identical but mathematically, the matri does win in multiple setups)
With fana...yeah, matri is a clear winner, seeing how you'll end up with the same attack speed more likely than not and matri wins basically everything else.
I've made this build twice, the first time offline and the second time online
Offline I used a Mancatcher, because I was making my very first Infinity, so I wanted it to be as multi-purpose as possible and I also wanted my spearzon to hit the fastest attack breakpoint without a Faith merc
I liked it so much, I made the build again several months later on ladder. This time, I fully committed with a mat Spear, and eventually also made Faith, Enigma, etc.
As @schnorki says, even without Faith, a mat Spear at 10 frames has similar dps to a Mancatcher at 9 frames. So if I ever make this build a third time, I will pick a mat Spear again!

How is this different then a thunder stroke build? Even with my jav I poke half the time. Would you use different skill?
The difference is that Infinity has a massive -(45-55)% to enemy lightning resistance built-in (which you don’t get to take advantage of when it’s on your merc), and that since you’re wielding it yourself the Conviction aura stays with you at all times (as opposed to on a dumb merc AI).
I’ve never seen dclone melt so fast as with a fully geared spearzon you won’t believe it ‘til you see it

I have one with Matriarchal Spear and Faith on act 1 Merc and man, she hits like a truck. I respeced from Javazon which I really don't like and never regret.
* I trade both ladder and non-ladder, please check before asking.
* All my trades are for runes, keys (especially KoT and KoH) and essences!
I assume this is different then an Impale zon as you mainly do DMG via lightning? Wouldn't it be best then to simply use a +3 skill base version of mat Spear?

Yes, that's the general consensus if you read the discussion above.

Thx everyone for feed-back you seem all happy and no regrets with this build no matter what base is so i will build it with items that I have. Atm with +3 Ceremonial Spear + triple aura A2 merc
Just checked my offline Infinity spearazon. I made her Infinity in a +3 Matriarchal Spear. Right now i think she is the best melee character in the game, farms everywhere on P8 easily, but doesn’t feel so overpowered it’s not fun anymore.
Even though 99.9% of the damage is from the +skills and -en lightning resistance, I’d still recommend one of the elite bases.
I think you can't get more than 2 auras on the merc (if you try 3+ the extra auras will no work...)
Mod edit : Nope, this isn't true, check other thread.
For a while: not accepting Ral or Hel; and considering Perfect Skull as a regular Perfect Gems on my trades.
