Description
I've been looking for an attack speed calculator for D2R to figure out IAS breakpoints for my Act 5 Frenzy merc, who dual-wields upped Headstriker s ( Conquest Sword) with a 15% IAS jewel (with ED). Most attack speed calculators that I was able to find were for D2 LoD.
https://warren1001.github.io/IAS_Calculator/ seems to be one for D2R. I have difficulty understanding how to use it. In addtion, I couldn't find what WIAS stands for. Maxroll's attack speed page mentions WIAS but there is no explanation of it.
Maxroll's D2 Planner can show attack rate, too. However, I don't understand how to find out about IAS breakpoints.
Any help will be appreciated.

Can be used to make Runewords:

Why did you use jewels and not a Shael?
Can trade on PC and PlayStation.
OP
They are with enhanced damage. Should have clarified this.
for some skills ias on the weapon counts for more than ias from other gear, so sometimes wias will show on the calculator, sometimes not
this is why Frenzy shows a wias field
another note about Frenzy: ias breakpoints depend entirely on the primary weapon. so a slow weapon on 2nd hand will not affect attack speed

OP
It makes sense. However, neither the term, WIAS, nor the concept of weapon IAS / IAS on weapon appears in the link.
OP
Are you saying Frenzy is one of the skills that treat IAS on the weapon differently than IAS from other sources?
The screenshot image is interesting.
Which calculator did you use to create it? Did you choose the parameters for my quest? Could you explain the table on the right?
Really appreciate your help.
OP
Is this IAS the total IAS from non-weapon gears?
You chose Barbarian as the character. Should I choose Frenzy Barbarian? It is at the end of the drop-down list and looks like the Frenzy merc.
You used 20 as Frenzy's level. Is it a test? I suppose I need to find out the level of Frenzy of the merc and put it in that field. Correct?

the " Frenzy barb" is the act5 merc ;]
if there is a separate field for wias, like Frenzy, the table shows needed off-weapon ias breakpoints
if there is no separate wias field, like Zeal, then the table shows needed ias, on and off weapon added together
i put 20 into Frenzy because every Frenzy barb will max this....with plus skills it wil be higher...

OP
The calculator seems to be buggy around Frenzy level of the Frenzy merc. It has no effect.
The resulting table doesn't seem to match Maxroll's D2 Planner. If the merc is equipped with two Conquest Sword only, the calculator shows FPA being 17 when WIAS is 0, while the D2 planner shows Attack Rate: 16 frames per 2 hits (3.13 hits per second), for Frenzy. The FPA value in the calculator when WIAS is 0 should match the number of frames per 2 hits in the D2 Planner, right? But it's not the case. I suppose each Frenzy attack has 2 hits and both hits are in the same animation, hence 2 hits.
Am I understanding something wrongly?

The calculator does say "No testing has been done for Frenzy yet for the Act 5 Mercenary." And it seems that you are right about Frenzy level having no effect on the Frenzy Barbarian - and in fact, it has already been reported as a bug. If you click the "Report a bug if you find one" link you get to a list of open issues, and the Frenzy merc Frenzy level is a listed issue.

Hello,
I´m still not sure if I fully understand the attack speed mechanics. I dont want to make a new thread about it, so I try it here.
I have an amazon which uses a Windforce. In this tool attackspeed.php I choosed a Hydra Bow as a primary weapon, then the breakpoints are 35,56,89,147 I have 95% IAS from my gear ( Windforce - 20%, Highlord's Wrath - 20%, Andariel's Visage with a IAS jewel- 35%, Laying of Hands - 20%) . Does that mean that I should get 52% more to be one frame faster? That sounds impossible to me.
Also, I put all my gear and stats to the maxroll planner and it says that the attack speed is just 43%, don´t know why.
If someone can explain me how it works, it would be very appreciated. Thanks a lot

Please check my FREE tab. I am always trying to get rid off stuff
Yep...
Both are right
The confusing thing is that IAS that is not from skills (like Fanaticism and Burst of Speed) suffer diminishing returns.
so your 95% IAS is just 43% EIAS (Effective ias)
The attackspeed.php uses IAS
https://maxroll.gg/d2/d2planner/
show one or the other depending on the place.
On the attack detail you can see both.
the real IAS show the same values as attackspeed.php (...35,56,89,147, 292) and the EIAS show the effective IAS (89% ias is 41% EIAS)
Because of the diminishing returns, to reach the higher breakpoints you need weapons with faster base speed (like Matriarchal Bow) and/or use skills.
(for example use Act 1 Merc with Faith)
If you add Fanaticism or Burst of Speed on attackspeed.php you will see that it makes a lot of difference in the numbers (because their bonus do not suffer diminishing returns)

Yes. Sometimes certain breakpoints are effectively impossible to reach with some bases. Hydra Bow is not the fastest base, so it will take a lot of IAS to reach the highest breakpoint (having Fanaticism aura via your mercenary, or pre-buffing Burst of Speed via a Hustle weapon on swap, will reduce the needed IAS from gear by a substantial amount - test it to see for yourself).nunuso wrote: 3 months agoDoes that mean that I should get 52% more to be one frame faster? That sounds impossible to me.
Also - to see how big of an impact the base can have, compare with for example Matriarchal Bow - and you'll see that the breakpoints are much lower. That's because the base has a higher base speed.
That's because IAS from gear suffers diminishing returns. IAS from skills or skill-like buffs ( Fanaticism aura, Burst of Speed, Frenzy, Mark of the Bear) suffer no dimishing returns. The game works with EIAS (effective IAS). To convert gear IAS to EIAS you need a specific formula, then the result is summed with skill-IAS to get the total EIAS. The breakpoints are actually based on EIAS values (because that's what the game actually uses), but when you pick "IAS" in the Table selection the calculator will convert the EIAS breakpoints back to corresponding gear IAS values.nunuso wrote: 3 months agoAlso, I put all my gear and stats to the maxroll planner and it says that the attack speed is just 43%, don´t know why.
The diminishing returns formula is as follows:
EIAS = 120 * IAS / (120 + IAS)
Taking your 95% and putting it through that formula:
120 * 95 / (120 + 95) = 53,023...
And to get the number 43 you're seeing, you also have to subtract the WSM (weapon speed modifier). This is the number that indicates the base's speed. Hydra Bow has a WSM of 10, so you have to subtract 10 from 53, making it 43. If we look at Matriarchal Bow again, it has a WSM of -10, a negative value, and when you subtract a negative value it's effectively the same as adding a positive number. WSM numbers look backwards for this reason - a lower WSM number is faster.

Don't you need to subtract the weapon base speed after?
With Hydra Bow
EIAS = 120 * IAS / (120 + IAS) - (10)
with 95% ias
120 * 95 / (120 + 95) - (10)= 53,023 - (10) = 43.023 (the value that https://maxroll.gg/d2/d2planner/ shows)
With Hydra Bow
EIAS = 120 * IAS / (120 + IAS) - (10)
with 95% ias
120 * 95 / (120 + 95) - (10)= 53,023 - (10) = 43.023 (the value that https://maxroll.gg/d2/d2planner/ shows)

Thanks for really good explanation. I was thinking to put IAS jewels to 3os Diadem or Corona, but now I see that it wouldnt make a difference.fredkid wrote: 3 months agoYep...

this is copy of my fresh, week old multizon with a1 merc with Faith, so you can play with gear and see differences in fps and ias.
