Description

I know you can
Find Item
affix eligibility on the areat summit website (prefixes, suffixes) but where in the data files are they? I assume it's in one of the .txt files in global/excel/, taking a quick glance around it's not immediately obvious to me where it would be.

I'm wondering because I'm trying to learn about item generation in classic, and I think the areat summit only gives data for LOD. Some affixes don't even exist in classic (like charges on items etc) and I'm curious how that is done in the data files. Any help is appreciated, either with my original question about the data files or with an alternative resources to learn about classic item generation.

OP
Since creating the post I figured out how to open the _diabloiidatafileguide.mht file, which contains the answers I want. In case anyone finds this topic later:
  • The affixes are described in magicprefix.txt and magicsuffix.txt
  • The version field determines if which game version it can spawn in (<100 is classic, >= 100 is LOD)
  • The spawnable field is set to 1 if the affix can actually spawn
  • The rare field is set to 1 if the affix can spawn on rare items
  • The itype1-7 fields lists item times it can spawn on
  • The etype1-5 fields list which item types are excluded (basically itype defines a set of items and etype excludes some subset of that)
One thing I'm not yet sure of is where the level requirement numbers on
Arreat Summit
come from. There is one listed in the txt files but on
Arreat Summit
it seems like one affix has different level requirements for different item types.

They are separate lines in the files. There’s basically multiple affixes with the same name and stat range but different ilvl, reqlvl and item types it can appear on. The game also separate affixes with the same name but different stat ranges in the same way.

Take Serpent’s in magicprefix.txt for example - there’s two lines in the file for the stat range 11-20 (to mana);

- one with ilvl 14, reqlvl 10, and applicable to item types shld, rod, belt, ring, amul, and circ

- one with ilvl 37, reqlvl 27, and applicable to item types tors, boot, glov, weap, orb

They’re effectively two separate prefixes, with the same name and stat ranges, just different levels and applicable item types.

I'm in CET (Central European Time), so that's UTC+1 normally and UTC+2 during DST.
