Description

Out of curiosity, if you could make changes to a skill to make it more viable/useful. What skill would you change, and what would you do to it to make it better/usable?

I think off the top of my head I would have to say
Thunder Storm
. Even with completely maxed
Lightning Mastery
it's still a total waste of 20 skill points.

As for changes, I think I would probably scale the damage better per skill point, and maybe quadruple it's attack speed. Maybe make it's strikes based on your FCR and give the strikes a small
Nova
effect so it can be more of an AoE type skill. Or possibly even give it a
Stun
duration every time it strikes so it has a utility beyond just doing damage to random enemies. Regardless it really needs help, because as it is, as cool of an ability as it is, it's pretty lackluster if not even useless.

So what would you change?

I think any suggestion for buffing or changing skills in any way needs some serious caution and consideration.

That said, I would like the entire Martial Arts Assassin tree to be more viable. Outside of
Dragon Talon
, most of it is pretty niche and when LOD first dropped, i tried so hard to make a Natalya's Odium +
Bartuc's Cut-Throat
Dragon Claw
+ charge-up Assassin work.

I wish they'd fix some of the bugged skills -- like it sucks that AR bonus from non-physical bow skills (
Freezing Arrow
,
Magic Arrow
,
Exploding Arrow
, etc) doesn't work. Requires putting considerable points in
Penetrate
regardless of bow specialty.

Anyway rant over. I'd like to see melee builds buffed in any way, and since they already have great attribute bonuses, making their skills stronger just makes sense. Some are already really strong, like
Smite
,
Zeal
, and Fury, but that's a pretty limited list considering the numerous magic/elemental builds that absolutely wreck everything (Dream+Dream+Infinity, come on...). Plus, the fastest zealers are the ones rocking the dual Dream, so it's just not enough variety in that regard.

Thinking of improvements while also not trying to make them too powerful…..

Make Barb
Whirlwind
great again.

Make barb masteries allow for all weapons to increase attack speed by one stage (very fast attack speed weapons can’t upgrade) once the skill reaches lvl 20.

Fix “Next Hit Always Misses" bug to make
Zeal
Paladins, Fury Druids,
Fend
Amazons better.

3 sec max for damage over time poison skills.

Allow for Druid to have a Bear + 1 Wolf.

Extend Fire
Hydra
up time to 20 sec and attack speed. Or keep same speed but up the damage.

Have
Teeth
Pierce
through enemies.

Have
Holy Bolt
and FotH hurt non undead.

I think - as IronLesbian and moonlit have also pointed out - that first considerations should go to fixing bugs that make certain skills worse/useless. Fixing all the bugs would immediately make several skills and builds more viable.

As @IronLesbian mentioned (r/rimjob_steve btw), I would love if
Holy Bolt
and
Fist of the Heavens
became viable builds on their own.
Still going to make a FoH'er on launch, but I'll have to mix it with an elemental
Zeal
to make it viable to use in more than a very niche situation.

Also make summon druid decent plox.

I would buff the HP of all of the druid vines (
Poison Creeper
,
Solar Creeper
, &
Carrion Vine
)

Allow druids to use all summons like in POD.

Buff
Holy Freeze
synergies to give it more power for a
Holy Freeze
build. The same for
Holy Shock
.

Not a skill, but I would change one of the missile weapon runewords to have also grant a lvl 6
Strafe
. This will open up fun builds like enchantresses that can use a bow, or elemental paladins using a bow as well.

Sure, even though I'll drive up competition for the items, I'd rather have more people discover a fun build ;) Note here though, it's been many years since I played D2 very much and I was a bit noobish back then, so this is just a build guide I found online:

It's called the Elemental Templar and utilizes the fact that FoH'ers use the
Conviction
aura to lower elemental resistances. You then couple this with a low level
Zeal
and a lot of added elemental damage to synergize with the high lvl
Conviction
aura. As the guide mentions, it can also be built as a Riftadin or a Dreamer.

Probably going to port the guide to diablo2.io, if the owner lets me do it. Or one with my own spin.

i swear sometimes i can cast my
Tornado
in front of me and it will intentinally travel away from what im clicking on can we fix this??
