Do items really become available for other people to pick up, if you die? I thought they just stayed inside your corpse.. And if you don't retrieve it, then they're gone for good. Didn't think they were available to pick up in game? Is that true? Thanks!
As per Amazon Basin , you can have up to sixteen corpses - afterwards, items start dropping.
Way back when this wasn't the case. All you had was the one. Glad to hear that it's virtually impossible to do nowadays though!

To clarify how it worked 20 years ago.

You died and you spawned with a completely empty body.

You then picked up your body. If you had enough space for everything, great. The body on the Ground would disappear. If you didn't and you died, anything you had picked up would drop on the Ground since no second body was made.

Just want to say, this is beautiful. I used to play back in the LOD days and then quit for decades. Not for something like what the OP went through, just lost interest. Now I’m back and see the community is way better than ever. Keep it up guys. Glad to be a part of it again. Y’all make the grind worthwhile.

Also, it doesnt hurt that this place seems like the anti-jsp (where such a thread would never exist).

This is a great thread. Glad to know this community has each other's backs!

Usually looking for Runes, Essences, PGems, Tokens, Keys, etc.
Always willing to discuss and negotiate :)

Check out my "Free Stuff" tab for...FREE STUFF!
Before adding me on bnet, please comment on the trade so I know who you are!

I've been ripped off so many times back in the Legacy days.. I'm glad that was fixed.

I also have no trust in randoms on bnet, this page tho. Never had anyone who tried to steal and quit the game... Thx for THIS community! The only community in D2R i trust.
... And of course my friends.

Before I joined here, I wanted to trade on bnet so I joined a trade session on bnet. It was pretty early on when D2R released. I wanted to trade a
Flamebellow
witch I already had 2 in dual wield of on my current barb (I think he was lv 72 atm) and had found a 3rd one so wanted to trade for a scrappy rune.

I write to another player also playing barb there, he was interested and wanted to see it.
So I was trying to click on him to trade but he moved away. Happened like 3 times, so I dropped it on the Ground.
Before it had even fell to the Ground he had picked it up. Then got non-responsive to me and after like 1min he left.

Now I never EVER play with randoms again! You're not alone my dude :)

BUMP: Oh no, now I remeber it properly. I tried to click on the item so it's stats would appear on the chat. But I missed my shift button and pressed Ctrl instead. Leading to what happened above ^
Even back then I had trust issues lol

I play non-ladder SC only, from EU but can trade in all regions

One must wonder, how on earth someone "accidentally" drops their gear? personally have never, not even once, accidentally dropped anything. And Ive been playing diablo since day one, do I win something for that? :'D

Ctrl+click with inventory open (instead of shift+click to link in chat). It's the same as moving items into cube/stash from inventory, but without cube/stash open it just drops it on the ground. I'm sure everyone (or most people at least) has done that at least once, at least while still unused to the controls, but whether there were anyone else in the game to snatch it while it was on the ground or not is another story. Personally, I've done it several times, there's usually not been anyone in there at the same time though. At least once there was someone else in there but I picked it back up quickly enough (can't remember what item it was, nothing super rare/expensive).

I'm in CET (Central European Time), so that's UTC+1 normally and UTC+2 during DST.
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.
My profile says Softcore, but I play both Softcore and Hardcore.
My Holy Grail Tracker is for Offline Hardcore.

I've had it happen during a group run while throwing out junk in town by unintentionally moving my mouse over my weapon during the toss, and it got picked up instead, and onto the Ground it went. If you go into town, open your inventory, press ctrl and click nothing will or at least should happen except that your char will take a couple of steps forward. I've also unintentionally sold an item or two making the same mouse move mistake.

Please post offer in item trade before adding me on Bnet, I'm in EST time zone (E Coast U.S)

This is the first forum post I've seen on this website. I bought this game for my computer & my switch at work, excited to play, I discovered this website.

What I have just read so far in this forum post has done nothing but fuel my excitement to play! I was worried there might be the typical toxic environment in this game, but it looks like when it really matters, people will work together in such Harmony to help a fellow gamer out. I'm sorry that happened, @Bryght but I'm so happy to see people working together to help ensure you don't leave this game bitter!

Looking forward to playing tonight!!

There's a lot friendly and helpful people around, though there's also sometimes the occasional arse to watch out for, but they tend to be a tiny minority.

If you feel under-equipped or have trouble getting what your character needs to keep going into Nightmare and Hell, look for games in normal difficulty with names like "Free items" and similar, as there are many people who every day find plenty of stuff they don't need or want, or already have, and instead of selling it, they go to games like those and drop stuff there that might be useful to others.

I've gotten maybe 1/8th of the gear i use from those, and i have dropped hundreds of gear in such games myself, so there's usually plenty to find even if it's rarely topend quality.
And sometimes, like a few weeks ago, things just get a bit absurd, when someone came into such a game, dropped about 40
Annihilus
charms. Left, returned halfhour later and dropped another 90 or so... Major WTF! moment... ^_^

That is really good to know, thank you so much! I’m currently having issues with finding games. For whatever reason, I just can’t find anything. But I’m gonna keep trying and attempt to search terms like the one you mentioned to see if that helps. Thank you! I’ve never felt so glad to be apart of a community!

I had no idea ctrl + click DROPS item...... I am actually now surprised ive not managed to do that by mistake. I always drag and drop if I drop something lol, thats funny. I was wondering how the hell people could DROP stuff accidentally, like its so obvious when drag and dropping there is no way someone makes such mistake. But if the quick
Key
is used by accident, that I understand. The game needs a pop up come when dropping item with quick
Key
"are you sure to drop this?" to which you accept or decline.

It's quite useful when trading large quantities of crafting materials (such as 40+ jewels/gems). It's just that much faster to ctrl+click them all onto the Ground vs dragging and dropping them individually (to Ground or trade window). Or when just wanting to drop a large number of items on the Ground as giveaways.

I have never understood why Ctrl+Click does not work in the trade window. This could make things so much easier...

I think it was originally meant to be a "safety" feature to disallow it specifically for trades, to prevent accidental drops to the Ground if the other party suddenly closed the trade window. But I also think it's not really needed, since the whole inventory closes if the other party closes the trade window, which means you would have to re-open inventory anyway. Though, I can't remember if it was always like that (that the inventory closed as well when a trade was cancelled) or something that was patched in after release...

There's one bug in the game search window to beware of, if you get a long list of games at one point, and then scroll down that, followed by another search for something that would only show a short list of games, you wont see ANY of them unless you scrolled back up to the top of the list before resetting the search.
Probably not the issue for you, but might be good to know in case it happens later.

Also yeah it can sometimes be difficult finding games when starting out, because the majority of games tend to be in Hell difficulty on nonladder non-hardcore.
But you can always start your own, just give a descriptive name about where you are playing, to make it easy to find for other people at the same place.

Thanks, this is my new nightmare - that I am trying to throw my 40 pgems to the Ground and I got a message to confirm after each of them :-D
