Description

Wolfhowl is the namesake piece of the WolfBarb build, granting a Barbarian access to Werewolf, Lycanthropy, and Feral Rage. It also gives a large bonus to Warcries and non-Energy stats.

Feral Rage is similar to Frenzy, a skill Barbarians have naturally, further reducing the value of Wolfhowl. Due to this and its lack of use to most builds that don't want to be in Werewolf form, it is mostly a novelty item.
On the other hand, we save skill points on combat skills, which can be spent on warcries or masteries. Combined with a nice life and attack speed bonuses from Werewolf and Lycanthropy, this is a viable build.

The increased attack speed of Werewolf form, and Barb being able to hold multiple slow/heavy weapons, means that Wolfbarb is good for hitting several times faster with heavy weapons, somewhat like Druid. Combined with Barbarian's (X weapon) Mastery abilities, you could concievably deal insane damage with, say, a 2-handed Axe weapon, many more times a second than should be possible.

The reason builds don't want to be in Werewolf form, as Trang Oul mentioned, is because while transformed the only skill available to use is Feral Rage. Even to use Warcries, one must exit Werewolf form.

Considering the low barrier to entry of a slvl 9 Werewolf and Lycanthropy (Base 3, Spirit x2, Annihilus, Battle Command), a WolfBarb in Werewolf form will enjoy the following benefits or better:

+85% Life
+25% Stamina
+170% Attack Rating
+56% Attack Speed
240 Second duration

Because a WolfBarb will almost certainly have at least a slvl 5 Feral Rage (Base 3, Annihilus, Battle Command), their attacks will have the following properties or better:

Mana Cost: 3
+60% Attack Rating
+70% Damage

And will impart the following for 20 seconds:

+19-41% Run/Walk Speed
+4-28% Life Steal

Wolfhowl is such an exciting piece to make a limited BO Barb into a high damage, high life (7-8K) high leech absolute animal. There is also plenty of stat points left over to drop into Find Item - making your workhorse Barb extremely versatile as a Horker.

This build heavily relies on attack speed so a Beast in the off-hand is ideal, while leaving the Merc to assist and provide Might and Concentration through Pride if possible, or alternatively a Faith Bow. Grief is BIS on main-hand IMO.

He can also be a Magic Find machine with high FCR (dual Hoto on swap) - using a 6 Ist'ed weapon on the off-hand! This works well in areas with mobs with lower defense/life where IAS isn't as critical.

NOTE: Crushing Blow on the off-hand weapon does not apply, therefore Last Wish does not always suit here, when an A2 Merc can provide a higher Might level with an additional Aura weapon if desired.
