A general rule may be :
Melee weapons have to be ethereal to be valuable, except class specific.
If not ethereal, damage will be to low.
For class specific weapons ( Claws, orbs, javs, etc), you want them to be at least +2 all class skills + many adds.
Except zon bows.
For body armors, it's a bit harder, but in most cases, they also have to be ethereal to be valuable.
regarding the rest, you have to identify them.
That may prevent you from picking useless rares.
