Multiplayer regions for Resurrected - any update on this?

Description

One thing I thought was really interesting from the Diablo 2 Resurrected deep dive at Blizzcon was that they mentioned they wanted 'Global servers', seemingly shying away from the traditional expectation of regional servers for N America, Europe, Oceania etc. like they have used in games previously:
Blizzard wrote:
Going to global servers is a new thing we're doing, in which the concept of US West/US East and EU are no longer going to be a thing in terms of being on separated servers.
So now for the push for global play with Diablo 2, you'll now be able to join forces with people from around the world.

Has there been any news on this front since then?

I'm just intrigued as to how they're going to handle ping/latency between players across the world from each other. Perhaps with CDNs or something?

Nobody is sure at the moment but some individuals share their thoughts on Reddit as to what they think it is going to be:
They said it will have "global servers", which is a bit vague, but I believe that means there will be servers spread across data centres worldwide (it just has to be, otherwise everyone but Americans would have terrible ping) but there will be no strict divisions such as "US West", "US East", "Asia", "Europe" and anyone from anywhere in the world can play with each other.

it is scary to think on the topic, the thing that worrie's me the most is what u said about the ping, which in turn leads to bad latency as u said. Let's just hope for the best since we are kinda in the dark on this topic.

I think when you create a game, it is created on your localised server. If you join someone else's game it will be hosted on their local server, and thus your ping is dictated by that.

That's a good guess too, I could see them doing this.

"Seven Evils spawned of seven heads. Seven realms birthed from Death."
