Description

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to check off some specific low-level items to complete my Chronicle, and I'm missing the following: Right now, I'm farming Normal difficulty with a Singer Barb (105% FCR, 550% MF, and a Dragon runeword on the mercenary). My route includes: Blood Moor to Stony Field, Secret Cow Level, Andariel, High Council, Mephisto, Diablo and Baal.

In the first three zones (Act 1), trash mobs die instantly, making the clears very efficient. However, using Find Item (horking) on White mobs feels like a waste of time. Because of this, I'm considering switching to a Dream Paladin with ~500% MF to clear those early areas even faster with the Holy Shock aura passive damage.

Am I missing something regarding drop mechanics for these specific items? Is there a better or more efficient approach?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't checked where those items drop but as soon as you are only missing a few items, gambling is a good option. Get a low lvl character so that you maximize your chances for that item and you have a 1:2000 chance.

Playing HC SSF right now.

Hell completed: Sorc, Druid, Paladin, Ama, Assa, Necro, Barb
Iron Man (Paladin): Nightmare A1

Personally, I prefer to keep things as efficient as possible so...

(1) If you're still missing any hell items, stick to hell and proper farming. The odds of finding the lower ones aren't as good as on normal, true, but you need to still do your hell farming anyways and you do have at least some chance to just get the low/normal stuff along the way.

(2) If you're still missing even a single item that can't be gambled (e.g. your Knell Striker), don't bother with gambling the others yet. Same reason as (1) above, you still need to do active farming for that one anyways so you have a chance to get the rest along the way.

(3) Once you really are down to only normal/gamble stuff left, stick to the most efficient route. For the low lvl gambling stuff, that's probably just gambling it as you can create a low lvl char to do so, making it rather cheap by comparison and allowing you to get there relatively quickly with fairly little Gold farming (in theory, still 1 item away from that point myself). For the non-gamble low-level stuff, Coldcrow tends to be among the best sources. Farming trash mobs on the other hand is rarely worth the effort as their odds of dropping uniques are just so bloody low. Knell Striker for example at around 400mf is like 1 in 988 off Coldcrow vs. about 1 in 89k off the highest chance White/trash mob, 1 in 281k off the 2nd highest (based on a quick maxroll calc check). So for every 1 Coldcrow kill, you'd need ~90 "perfect" trash mobs or really closer to 300+ general trash mobs, just to even things out. And once you get used to the Coldcrow route, she's def. faster to take out than finding 300+ trash mobs.

I for one am still stuck at 2 items to go ('tis too hot to really chain-farm lately ^^), one being a hell farm and the other being one that is easily gambled/farmed on normal. But I won't bother with any gambling/normal farming until that last hell piece is found. And just looking at the last 8 pieces I found (all in hell farm games), 3 of them were missing normal/low stuff (including your Torch of Iro and Knell Striker actually) so had I gone to normal for those it would've simply been a waste of time and I wouldn't have gotten the 5 high/hell pieces alongside them.
