Description

Today I accrued a considerable amount of D2R Wealth - I now have 88
Jah
runes.

Have I beat the game?

What would you consider as having beat the game? :D

Can be used to make Runewords:

If you are unsure what to offer - try the following:

Keys
Statues
Green essence
Runes

well done!

'beating the game' will always be different for everyone, but look at the basics.
can you do organ runs/ubers/ancients on your own? if so, again, well done.

some might say beating the game is maxing out 99 runes, keys, essences, tokens, etc.

collectors might say completing the chronicle or something similar.

88 jahs is not a small feat, although quite easily achievable

I would say you should convert that into fairly optimized gear for a character or two that you want to build. If you've done that, then for me it was time to go offline and find everything on my own.

I'll consider myself to have beaten the game when I have my characters geared-out to the point where I have no expectation of improving them. It's going to take me years still.

When a game is "beaten" is subjective. Personally, I consider a game "beaten" when there is nothing left that I want to do.

Yeah -I guess it's time for that
Poison Nova
necro - or finding the last item on my set chronicle:
Sander's Paragon
.. xD

That's funny I just recently found
Sander's Paragon
myself didn't realize how rare it was 🤣.

You've "beat" the game when you've run out of ways to beat the game, and what that means depends on who's contemplating it, because it differs from player to player.

I have never had anywhere near that Wealth, but I did recently get enough HRs to trade or make the gear for the Dragon Paladin, including Hand of Justice, and it is pretty fun at least on p1 blasting a level 67 Paladin through Hell difficulty as soon as he could equip it all (and he got stronger at 70 and 75, anni + torch and sunder charm). But there are still many more builds I want to try that I've not been able to afford properly making yet.

If you play alone, I think it does limit what you can do, but if you play with close friends or family then the play time might be extended since you can help them do things, trade with them or even gift them gear, and play together and voice chat while playing as a social activity. I doubt I will ever consider this game beat but I might eventually get tired and move on to other games again.

What makes this game relevant decades later is that the goal posts forever move. When I started offline in D2R my goal was simple, let's get that Enigma right. Opens up so much build diversity and it's quite hellish to achieve without trading. Welp, the moment I achieved that I just made different goals. And so it continues.

Gotta max out the
Jah
rune slot at 99 first :)

Big trade today or slow accumulation over time?

For me, it was when in 2000 my Bone necro killed hell Diablo (remember, no runewords, no
Baal
, no Internet guides to follow). After that
Baal
showed its ugly face and the show must go on...
Today as I see, I will never complete the game as whole, but can achieve small goals, like the first self made Enigma or get full sets for every (non RotW) class. So far the Enigma is done, and a few pieces missing from the barbarian, necro, druid sets.

I don't have RotW expansion yet.
When I look for rune, you can offer
Perfect Gems
as well.
I live in Europe/Budapest timezone.
For my free stuff I appreciate if you give me
Perfect Gems
, but it is optional.

Technically, I'd say you have (originally) beaten the game if you completed Hell (with any character) with a non-rushed playthrough.
Now with the new endgame, I'd add having beaten dia clone,
Uber Tristram
, uber ancients, and some Heralds.

But after you have "beaten" the game, the fun starts for many. There are many things left to do which go beyond beating the game.
Farming, leveling to 99, beating the same in HC, finishing Chronicles, ...
All achievents worth pursuing but none of them are needed for "beating" the game.

Playing HC SSF right now.

Hell completed: Sorc, Druid, Paladin, Ama, Assa
Nightmare completed: Barb
Normal completed: Necro

Iron Man (Paladin): Nightmare A1

For me before beating the game means (roughly in order):
  1. D2/D2R Classic:
    • finding all waypoints on all difficulties
    • completing all quests on all difficulties
    • being able to kill Diablo (and other bosses) on Hell alone
    • clearing the Cow Level (without killing
      The Cow King
      in legacy D2)
    • being able to kill Über Diablo on Hell alone
    • being able to comfortably farm Hell areas, including bosses - skipping immune monsters, unless the build is hybrid or has a skill to break them
  2. D2 LoD - as above and:
    • all quests and waypoints in Act V on all difficulties
    • being able to kill
      Baal
      on Hell alone
    • being able to complete
      Pandemonium Event
      (keys, organs, UT) alone
    • being able to comfortably farm Hell areas, including bosses - without skipping immunes if the build has gear to break them (read: Infinity)
  3. D2R LoD - as above and:
    • being able to comfortably farm Hell TZ areas, including bosses, without skipping immunes at all (Sunder)
  4. D2R RotW - as above and:
    • being able to complete Colossal Ancients alone
    • completing the Chronicle (sets, uniques, runewords)
    • max possible number of all stackable items in the shared stash
  5. HC - as above and:
    • surviving
I specifically didn't include obtaining specific gear, as I consider it a mean to beat the game, not a goal on its own. Same for leveling to 99 - most builds are finished earlier.
