That's a pretty toasty CPU, but if that's the high point you're probably fine. If it goes above 95 regularly then I'd be more worried.

thanks, im the least computer savy person i know but red generally isnt good

ill probably look up a video on opening and cleaning the fans

Cap
the FPS to 60 or lower (if it isn't already). This game doesn't benefit from 300 frames per second and it could roast your CPU.

Maybe laptops are different but i remember a few years ago my pc spontaneously shutting down due to peaking at 88c šŸ™ƒ do laptops really run in the 90s like that regularly?? omg

Run D2R on GeForceNow! Super cool ;-)

D2:R seems to be rather badly optimized for newer hardware. Or just not have any inherent limits to how far it tries to push things.

Look into upscaling, frame limiting, that sort of thing.

Case and point, ever since upgrading my rig, everything, including still un-optimized early access stuff and top-end titles and whathaveyou runs perfectly smooth and with no temp issues whatsoever.
But D2:R, if I let it run wild, is the only thing I have been able to find that pushes even my new rig to levels that just ain't right. Or rather, it is the only title I have found that causes my fans to go full ape to counteract it while still ending up 15-20 deg over basically any other scenario.
Mind you, that's at 5k2k resolution as well so some load is justified but nowhere near what D2:R is causing.

The only thing that even comes close is other titles on first boot when compiling shaders. Except for those other titles, soon as the shaders are ready, everything's done. D2:R just pushes straight past that and never looks back.

Set my DLSS to balanced and frame
Cap
to 120 and since then, things are nice and chill again. And since DLSS is pretty baller nowadays, it looks exactly the same as it does without scaling so..no noticeable loss there.

It does seem to be related to newer/specific tech though somehow as my old (like..ancient) rig had plenty of issues with all sorts of titles but D2:R ran perfectly smooth and without any temp concerns.

Well, anything modern will run it no issue...after you adjust a setting or two. ;)

A CPU temp of 83° C is on the high side of its operating range, but the T-junction max for your CPU is 100° C. Best to keep it running below its TJ max, so maybe 90°C tops. Here's a small footprint, safe, ad free CPU Temp monitoring application that you can use on your desktop. Note that with a laptop room temp and the surface it's sitting on can affect its cooling capacity.

other than monitor, will it fix or keep temps down?

It's mostly a temp monitor, but it does come with an overheat protection monitor. To physically lower the temp you'll need to play in a cool room, don't play on surfaces that blocks laptop air flow, or make modifications to your laptop if it can be done.

Here is a screenshot of some settings. Note like with everything there is a learning curve.

DLSS could also help a lot if you're less worried about how the game looks, it basically dynamically alters the resolution you're playing at to keep the framerate high, it's the third option in video settings. Quality will result in a better picture with less frames, performance is worse picture with better frames, you get the idea. Play around with that and see how it effects your temps.

Good call out. FSR (if on Radeon).

Ok the frame rate dropped the gpu temp to under 80 but not the cpu temps
What else can I try?

I literally bought a fan to help cool my laptop (now it's winter here, but it gets pretty hot in summer). Other than that, I'm playing at low settings
