Doom base/Cold Sorc advice

I'm using a Bliz sorc on ladder and have stuff for Doom.

Is there any reasonable reason not to do it in a Double Axe? And there are no one handed hammers that get 5 sockets, right? Double Axe kinda ugly to me.

I'm on console and Blizzard is ok, but I'm sort of wanting to use Orb for a bit. Ice Bolt is the synergy, but I'm curious as to the icebolts that shoot out of the orb. Do boosting Ice Bolts synergies buff the individual Bolts?

As for Ice Sorc, does it get better with Infinity and some skillers? Like I have NightWing+ -res Sunder with a protextor jewel, occy and tals atm for the MF and it feels ok but I don't know how much much room I have to improve kill speed wise on P3. I haven't done a respec yet since I haven't found stuff for Enigma/Chains so my Cold Master is nearly 20 and everything else Blizzard wise is maxed.

I feel I'm lagging behind my Blood Boil friend quite a bit and am trying to find a way to increase my kill speed.

You can do Doom in a Military Pick .

Not much of a cold sorc player so you'll need to wait for someone else to answer the other questions.

Or a War Axe.

To answer your questions in order:
- You can choose another base ( Military Pick, War Axe) for style reasons. Note the different requirements of the bases.
- There are no one-handed hammers (except for Charsi's malus and forge hammer)
- Yes, the damage from the orb refers to each individual bolt.
- Yes, skillers make a big difference. Infinity does make a difference but it's a bit complicated. Vs. Non-cold immunes your Cold Mastery is sufficient (you can only reduce resistance to -100). But vs. sundered cold immune enemies, Cold Mastery only works at 20% efficiency. Conviction aura also only works at 20% efficiency (which means Infinity leads to -17 ECR). If you are using Doom, then the damage increase from Infinity is still good, but not massive. Like, if you reduce the resistance from 0 to -17, that's a 17% damage increase. Without Doom, the relative gain would be much bigger. If you already are at -100, then there is no damage increase at all.

To add to that, you can consider Death's Fathom instead of Doom. It's stronger vs. non-immunes but weaker vs. immunes. Depends on how/where you play.

Neither with blizzard nor with Frorb you will catch up with your buddy. Warlock is just stronger than cold sorc.

You can consider respecing to Nova word if you want a strong sorc. Go for self-wield Infinity then.

I understand how mastery and minus works. I'm ok as is with non immunes, its the immune that are still currently slow and cause me to skip a lot, which is why I want to try Doom.

Military Pick might be my base.

So to be extra clear, I shouldn't do any of Ice Bolt synergies for orb. That's too bad. I feel like the cold tree is messy in terms of synergy.

As for Nova I'm trying to stay cold on Ladder but the game is giving me lightning and fire skillers instead of cold which is tempting. Originally I wanted a fire sorc but I'm also mainly getting cold sunders which is where Im at now.

I am using that exact setup.

Gear: Doom Double Axe (as mentioned, you can choose whatever base you want), Spirit Monarch, Nightwing's Veil with Protector's Frost, +3 Blizzard Ormus' Robes with facet, Snowclash, Mara's Kaleidoscope, Bul-Kathos' Wedding Band, FCR ring with allres, rare boots with res and mf and rare gloves with res, mf and 32 charges of level 5 Weaken, which is very handy versus Herald parties.

Skills are Blizzard and Frozen Orb maxed with all synergies maxed, 1 pt Teleport, 1 pt Static Field, 1 pt Warmth, Chilling Armor coming from gear.

Act 2 Prayer Desert Merc with Insight, Cure, Fortitude.

My level 45 Blizzard is at 13k damage, Frozen Orb is 1.2k. She plows through /P1 and she can play up to /P8, but she will never outdamage an S-Tier build.

In the end, it's not about damage alone. I regularly play in small parties using a wide array of classes or builds and there are so many ways to help your friends. Just support them with your incredible manstopping power and make frequent use of Static Field on big baddies! Attack ranged groups with Blizzard so you can focus on dodging while they get killed and freeze monsters coming close to protect your fellows. A cold Sorc makes any melee Herald party a walk in the park for your team!

Nice setup!
You can consider swapping snow clash+fcr ring for arach +BK/SoJ. You lose +1 spike but gain 2 Frorb, 2 CM, 2 Static Field, 2 Warmth, ...

And of course swapping Mara's for crafted amulet is possible, too. You only need 8fcr to hit 63 BP, right? Crafted amulet with 2 skills, 8fcr, ~20 all res should not be too expensive.

Since you have enough strength to wear Monarch, make your Doom in WarSpike . You'll be able to use it on other characters later.
