I have read where 200 MF is the sweet spot but wanted to poll the forum on actual in the field experience
Can be used to make Runewords:

noone can give you a valid in the field experience because the variance is so high that personal experience can only mislead you. human beeings can only experience causal affects properly. our brains are not made to understand statistic correlations instinctively. you need math and abstract numbers and get mad afterwards, because you feel that statistics lie
Also, mf means unique. And most of unique is worthless...
You will need opal ring, griffon, Crown of Ages, soj , weeding ring.
Those only tie to specific area and rotw already experienced huge corpse bug exploit . That makes any loot looks silly.
If you focus on self find, mf can be useful. Otherwise, just focus on blue find. (means, limit your mf to 50-100)

previous rotw, they use like 1000 mf + and massive corpse to loot. (5 wisp mf++ trick)
It will kill all regular loot value.

Please be aware, all my trade is in non ladder d2r. Not warlock.
You hit the "sweet spot" for me when you wear MF items that actually fit to your build and do not slow you down, such as Enigma or Shako.
But if you sacrifise a lot of kill speed and defense to squeeze in lots of MF, it's usually not worth it. A fast 1:30 min Chaos run with just 200 MF ( Shako+Enigma+Gheeds+Ancient jewel) is usually better than a 3:00 run with 600 MF.
Less MF can even be preferable if you are hunting for good bases. When RotW came out, everybody wanted an Archon Staff or Rune Staff for Obsession and people paid Ber/ Jah for it. Farming these bases, Larzuking them and selling them for big profit was a fast way to earn "money". With high MF these staffs would be mostly magic (blue), which means 99% trash.

^nice writeup on everything. I prefer at least 150 if I can get it, 250 seems optimal. If I can't even get to 100 I try to just do 0 and make that character a base/rune farmer.

Grimoires
if you dont lose kill speed 300-350 is what i would call the sweet spot.
After 300-350% diminshing returns really takes a nose dive for increasing unique drop chances, but from 250 to 350 is not a big difference for farming unique items.
google diminshing returns and find the table for mf, or use maxxrolls drop calculator which is not 100% accurate, but its close enough.
nishicode also have a drop calculator

Chaos Sanctuary is where I found 2 of those some time ago. But any high enough mob or unique / champion especially in 85 level zones can award you with one.
If you want some Grimoire right now you better buy it instead of grinding. There are chances that you will get anything but rare Grimoire.

this post has a nice chart to visualize. I think the 200 recommendation comes from a couple places:
1) It is the absolute Cap on effective magic find increase for uniques (infinite magic find equipped = 200 mf impact).
2) It is a reasonable sweet spot for many characters, especially since Enigma gives you close to 100 to start, then with gheeds and some charms it doesn't take much on equipped gear to get to 200.
I don't have the exact table, but I think you'll find about 9-10% more uniques at 300% vs. 200% and another 7-8% more at 400% vs. 300%. Which, once you factor in that runes, gems, and other items have value as well, starts to become somewhat pointless to push for, but depends on your character and personal preference.
