Ormus and a 2/20 w/ perfect affixes would be wildly expensive for such an incremental gain.

But we aren't talking wealth or value here, we are talking BiS. BiS for damage is

Ormus + 2/20. That's it.
For extra survivability you will go with

Skin of the Vipermagi.
Either way 3/10 is objectively wrong for a BiS.

Damage-wise,

Ormus is BiS. The two questions are: 1. Do you need/want the extra damage from

Ormus? 2. Can you do without the higher FCR and the defensive stats on Viper. And that pretty much depends on the content you are running.

WSK or Durance? I would go Viper. Cows? I would go

Ormus. But if I do Countess Runs, which are fairly easy and not very dangerous, I go for neither and instead go for a set-up that gets me 200 FCR for extra fast teleports. If you don't want to change your gear according to the content, then I would recommend Vipermagi.

Again, it's BiS literally "for damage". If you make another stipulation, apply it and find another BiS. There were two armors mentioned in total. Choose one for *your* BiS.
Not much of a choice here, except for 3/10 being *your* BiS because *you* don't need the extras, doesn't make it an objective BiS.

All of these are correct. We're only using Viper+3/10 as an example to show how well it competes on sheet damage vs

Ormus as that's the usual metric people uphold it to. It's never worth it unless the use-case falls within your parameters.

The title doesn't state anything about damage nor does the orginal post say anything about total damage, just that the +

Nova is added damage. BiS is also not literally "more damage." If that was true then Insight would never be BiS on any build because potions. Yet, here we are in years-long meta of Insight being considered a BiS merc weapon for many non-elemental builds.

Naturally, we have to consider the holistic answer just as you say. We only said that

Ormus was a trap and provided a follow-up.

I'd stick with Vipermagi, as I prefer the resists. Even with 60+ light res, souls can fk you up, although I'm not sure if that's better prevented with the MDR (which viper also has).

Also, it looks cool as hell.
