I had the idea recently that this should instead reward the uber ancient statues. Maybe have a 50% chance against some other random lesser reward like a random

Key or a random essence or one of the rewards you suggested why not, just to make it require more total time spent to farm it than the current system so it's not too OP while also giving us an alternative to the stupid time gating. They could also keep the current system in paralel so that we actually feel lucky when we get WSK instead of miserable all the time that we don't.
