Description

I used to play a long time ago. . .back in the early/mid 2000's during the 1.08, 1.09 and 1.10 patches. Just came back recently right before the RotW expansion. Ironically, I didn't even know about it so I came back totally on a whim, unrelated to that. Maybe not even a week before.

I have to say, the Diablo community now seems so chill, helpful, and nice. Just trading with people from here, I've ended up chatting with and befriending a few people. Some of them even gave me a bunch of stuff to help me out (I didn't even ask), which ended up really helping a lot. People are even trusting enough to just drop stuff on the Ground to trade too.

I have to say, it's a welcome surprise. Everyone, and I mean everyone who used to play this game was so sinister, lol. It was a wretched hive of scum and villainy where almost everyone was trying to scam or rip off everyone else. I remember so many "Diablo scams". I'm sure I'm not the only one with stories about it, lmao. Luckily, I was never scammed, but almost every friend I had who played was.

Anyway, it's been nice coming back. Everyone here, at least the ones using this website and trading I suppose, have been really nice people. Not even stingy with trades. Most people just accept whatever as long as it's somewhat reasonable, so I try to be generous when I offer).

I just wanted to throw this comment out into the Void in case anyone enjoys hearing about it. Thanks for being such good people.

Don't worry, i'm still the same old ass wipe.

Less teenage angst but more grumpy cynicism.

I've gotten back into AoE2 a few years ago and I noticed that (vast majority of) the active community was helpful, friendly and, in general, nice. I would encounter jerkasses during random team games but people who participated in communication, theorycrafting, discussion, etc., were understanding and accommodating. I would have put AoE2's current community as one of the most approachable.

Both Diablo 2 and AoE2 are from the early 00s. I think we are just older and more mature now and don't have either the time or the energy to be assholes online. :)

Not everybody was an asshole teenager. Some of us watched asshole teenagers get away with what they are and never wanting to be like them none the less.

Overall, the player base is older and nicer than 25 years ago but still be careful, especially if you have some expensive stuff.
When I tried to sell my 15ed 775 MP Enigma, I encountered numerous people who wanted me to "link" it, well they all told me the keys to drop it...Did not fall for it, of course.
There are still lots of scammers out there.

True.
And we certainly have an unusually positive community here (love you all!).
But even in-game, the scammers and aholes seem to be a LOT less than back in the day. Yes, they're still there. And yes, they still try to screw you out of your gear with the same old tricks. But the share of them vs. people who are actually nice and friendly and helpful has shifted massively from the olden days.

Interestingly, that's basically the exact opposite of my experience in pretty much any other, more modern game as people in those are by and large infinitely more toxic than they've ever been in D2.

I suppose there is something to be said for an on average older and more mature audience.
