Description

Hey Guys,

Yesterday I was able to try a strategy I came up (sorry if someone already figured this out and shared), and I could kill 5 ~7
Herald
of
Terror
.

Heralds are carried through Acts, so what I did to save some investment, TZ was Kurast area, which means roughly ~30% of Act 3 (free, no Shard investment necessary). I was lucky enough to had 2 Heralds encounters.

Then I used a
Western Worldstone Shard
which terrorizes Act 1. I was able to find 2 more Heralds until
Cold Plains
. In no time I was killing my first
Herald
of
Terror
.

In between Act 1 maps, I was trying to clean every other TZ that appeared.

I had very solid drops, as such War Travelers (48% MF 😍), Goblin Toes,
Tal Rasha's Guardianship
,
Griswold's Valor
, etc.

No new sunder whatsoever :(

BUT I am happy that, right now, I have a more solid strategy to farm those.

Let me know your thoughts, and your strategy.

Yes, Ginger already pointed out that when you terrorize a complete act you should farm every "normal"
Terror
zone in other acts to maximize your chance for Heralds (you can alway come back to your tz act). Bottom line: Keep your game open as long as possible and farm until you get a tz you already have cleared. Then quit or take a break until the next one 😉

After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)

I don't know if this is documented, but it seems as if when you trigger the event 'draw the ire...' the next time you fulfil the conditions (encounter an elite pack a certain distance from you?) then the
Herald
spawns.

So my strategy has been to hold back the areas the areas I know are full of elites (certain caves etc.) and go into them once I've initiated the event. More often than not, I then get a
Herald
as soon as I change maps.

While I'm still unsure on the exact triggers, this does seem a good approach.

I finally started getting some ire triggers again last night after "nothing whatsoever since ladder started" and whenever I had new unique packs left to discover, I got my
Herald
quite quickly. When I didn't as I already went through the area (just teleporting across), it became a lot harder.
For tombs for example, teleporting across canyon to get an ire inside some tomb meant that trying to get a spawn in canyon afterwards felt impossible. Heading into a new, untouched tomb though then triggered it near instantly.

The mechanic is known. Described here: post4116812.html#p4116812

tl;dr

Every time you kill an elite, you have 2% chance to gain a "token" (draw ire). These can be stacked up to 5, but you can't see the number anywhere, you need to manually keep track of it by watching the game chat.

Every time new mobs spawn in (which happens in a ~2 screen radius from where you're standing), there's a 1% chance per mob that it's converted to a
Herald
. This "consumes" a token. A lot of people experience that heralds often spawn when you enter a new map/floor, and that's because the instant you enter a new map/floor, the game spawns in all mobs on that map within a ~2 screen radius from the entrance - that can be a lot of mobs that spawn in at once, and if you already have at least one "token", there's a high chance of a
Herald
appearing. Otherwise it will happen randomly as you move across a map (monsters spawn in as you explore, the whole map doesn't spawn at once, only within ~2 screen radius). All mobs can be converted to a
Herald
, even normal mobs.

I'm in CET (Central European Time)
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.
My profile says Softcore, but I play both Softcore and Hardcore.

Till now all my observations follow the mechanic @ShadowHeart described. My current strategy is:

1. to focus first on killing uniques only till get the token.
2. Then killing normal monsters till
Herald
spawns.
3. Then kill
Herald
and if map isn't cleared start again hunting uniques.

Most terrorized zones aren't that big that you have multiple iterations but zones like
Tal
rashas tomb are perfect for multiple iterations. It is also important to know that you can have multiple tokens at the same time. If a token is triggered you should kill the spawned
Herald
first before triggering the second to raise the level of the second
Herald
.

This whole approach is more theoretical than practical but can be served as a rough orientation maybe.
