Description

I recently put together a spreadsheet to calculate elemental aura damage, just because I play mostly aura builds and there are more variables to consider from the mod of D2R that I play

So let's test with a standard dragondin from the base game: I used the skill damage formula from amazon basin, so 93-95 base damage at lvl44, add the synergies, etc., and validated my calculations based on Schnorki's calculations here: forums/opinion-dream-or-dragon-t1425497.html
Ok, looks good. But then I go to maxroll, make the build with no facets, assuming -100 enemy res, so the damage should be double
That's not double, and the spread between min and max is much wider. Taking off the synergies and dividing by 3, it looks like they used the wrong formula for base skill damage, which they think is 82-98. They list the correct synergies on the skill mouseover, but maybe they are using the old synergies? Is there something in the game files altering the calculation that I don't know about?

The few times I've looked in any detail at maxroll damage calcs, it's wrong. Last year I went down a rabbit hole with physical damage calculations, and all logic and meaning broke down the more I played with it--I just gave up out of frustration

So is there a more accurate calculator out there, a Warren-IAS-calculator equivalent of damage calculators? It's not super important for the base game, where pretty much all of the builds and items have been done to Death. But playing mods, it's often very helpful to put some numbers on your build

I'm being used for validation now? Oh my..
Too much responsibility! ^^

Anyways, maxroll has always looked off from the real dmg. Though I've admittedly never looked into it enough to figure out why.
Immediate guesses that come to mind for "valid" deviation:
- The dmg of these (within limits) scales with distance nowadays. They might simply be opting for some other point in the range. (mid, min, max, some other arbitrarily chosen point in between)
- The real damage of these builds isn't as high as it is because of the tick damage but because of the ticks hitting multiple times with multiple item auras. MR might simply be looking at single tick damage. In that case, for a full HF build (with 3 item auras), MR should then give you ~1/3 the real damage.

I've never found an accurate calculator for that sort of thing though to be honest, I've also not explicitly looked for it. They are fairly straight forward if you have somewhere to get the skill dmg/lvl from so Excel is your friend.

the most obvious (highest) difference/mistake on dmg i have found on maxroll was 3y ago on bladessin. really donno is there any accurate calculator, so far maxroll is all i use.

Another known issue: maxroll do not calculate
Strafe
and
Whirlwind
"attacks per second" correctly 😓😓
but the "damage per hit", as far as I know, is correct, so you can apply a "delta" based on the correct "attacks per second" (available here attackspeed.php 😉) to infer the correct "total damage per second" 🤓🧮

No, there is no accurate calculator for bladesin damage, though I've pondered trying to make one myself (not likely to actually happen though lol). Maxroll is definitely not correct for that. Might still give you an overall idea of which ballpark the damage is in, maybe? I don't even think all mechanics for the blade skills have been 100% determined (there's lots of ifs-and-buts). There's a reddit thread which summarizes the state of what is known about the damage mechanics pretty decently, but even that one says that some of its info is unconfirmed).

I'm in CET (Central European Time), so that's UTC+1 normally and UTC+2 during DST.
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.
My profile says Softcore, but I play both Softcore and Hardcore.

bet not even blizzard fully knows how bladessin works... thinking that they thought no1 will use it as build because it was low dmg crap used to fullfill skills so they didn't spend much time on that.

Yeah lol. Well, they did patch
Blade Fury
's targeting in one of the later D2R patches that had any changes (3 seasons ago). That was an unexpected (but a welcome) change.
