Description
We married in 2020. In 2021 I started playing and my softcore sin is named after my wife. She is a lvl 90 lightning trapsin, but I haven’t played her since a few patches ago.
Daughter was born in 2024 and I created a hardcore sin and named her after her. Sadly, because I am idiot and I teleported into a cursed elite pack in maggot lair, the sin passed away at lvl 77 carrying two spirits, a Treachery and some other random gear.
The irl baby is pretty fine though and is growing like a sweet joy.
How do you guys pick names for your characters?

Can be used to make Runewords:

I tend to pick names based on the build I am going to play. In the past I have done like taptaptap for a zealer, forkedbolt for a Strafe zonetc.
usually online 1am US Pacific time, 9am Europe time
I recently prefer common cli-programs for network analysis (and possibly dubious usecases), like nmap, netstat and wireshark as names. Older chars are named refering to music i like. And Barb's names are always a pun on something with hork, like the classic HorkHogan, TonyHork or Mork vom Hork (old German tv series)
Glad to hear that, d2r is just a game, fortunately

I called one of my Druids "Poju" which was my dogs name. Also naming dog pets "Poju" every time I can. I miss that dog... *insert ohimademyselfsad.gif*
I mean, its not weird to name characters or things after people you care for.

I pick names by whatever mood I'm in. My Paladin is ShinyPants, assassin is DonutHole, amazon has my daughter's name (per her request), a summon druid has my daugher's middle name (also per her request), my barbarian is MoistYoga, and I have some characters that I clicked the auto-generate name.
All over the place.

I'm willing to accept other forms of currency. Like Tokens, Keys, Perfect Gems, and certain minor runes in lieu of my asking price. I'm also willing to accept rune combinations that add up to my asking price.
Not to burst some childhood bubble of yours but Mork vom Ork isn't a German series.
That's merely the German name for the US series Mork & Mindy.
Starring Robin Williams is kind of a dead giveaway there.
As for names, I prefer to keep life and game separate. Though that is somewhat ironic I suppose as 'Schnorki' is itself based on a real-life slip of the tongue when I was like 6 years old or something.

I either pick names I like (a lot of Russian and Spanish names) or basically click the random name generator button in my head and use whatever sounds good to me.
Out of my online characters, I do have a few less random ones, though. My druids have Irish mythological names: Lugh and Cuchulainn. My first ever Diablo II character was a Bone necro called Gix, after an MTG villain, and I still use that character offline and the name online. My other online necro is called Huehueteotl, after an Aztec deity who is the patron of fire, but also, more importantly, "the old man."

I do it the other way around. My daughter is named after a NPC from Mass Effect
After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)

I name most of my characters after classic cartoon characters. I mean who wouldn't want a Barbarian named Bambi, or a Smite Paladin named Thumper?
They tend to have names inspired for my former Warhammer Battle characters. Who were inspired by... ah, no idea any more for most (but my D4 necromanceress wears the sweet name of Yersinia, from Yersinia Pestis - the common Plague. She is sick !
Main: Necromancer / Second: Assassin / Third: Amazon / Check my stash, my crafts and my many cheap Annihilus
I had a sorc i named after my daughter, but not hard-core lol.
Side note Ive had several chars with 0 deaths, I just dont like the mental stress of hard-core from the fact that there's so many factors beyond my control that could cost an entire character and everything they worked for.
I also had an Amazon named after a close friends new daughter (now 2yrs old). Barbarian or Paladin alot of times Ive picked movie character names who I thought they resembled or sometimes stupid nicknames I used to have, lol.

Inanna (trapsin): Sumerian goddess of love, war, & fertility
Reshef (summon necro, alternate spelling of Resheph): Syrian god of war & plague
Æir (sorc whose spec keeps changing, alternate spelling of Eir because alt characters are super kewl): Norse healing goddess
Keyush (fire druid, was supposed to be a werebear): Inuit for bear cub

Haanit (frostmaiden): the huntress from Octopath Traveler
Mascon (whirly barb): short for mass concentration, a term for super dense regions on the moon that disturb the orbit of spacecraft
Pjem (javazon): originally a perfect gem storage mule, named after a Vulcan monastery + an old cartoon called Jem & the Holograms
Faal (languishing smiter): named after a doomed ship from Homeworld: Cataclysm Emergence (f*ckin Blizz stealin names). Fitting that the ship & character are both doomed. I still can't stand paladins even a quarter of a century later.
Garruk (summon druid): named for the MtG planeswalker
Spagirl (Demon Machine sorc): originally my full rejuv mule cause low level sorcs look like they've just been rejuvenated by a spa day

This is also most often how I make my character names. Something funny. Right now paladin is called Holy Buttocks, spreading the holy hammer.Knappogue wrote: 4 months agoI pick names by whatever mood I'm in. Always use the -ling suffix if I can. Teebling, Dweebling, Noobling, Sproutling, Feebling etc.
I use Magic The Gathering character names for playable chars

and just some utility name for Mules.... (like "L-BaseA")

Interesting... Well, you can keep making HC characters with her name and thus make her immortal in a way!
I used to name all of my characters in the variations of my own childhood nickname which is Dudu (fun fact: my most played character in the original D2 was Druid ofc after LoD came out
without knowing that people actually use that when shortening class names -- because before D2R I have never played D2 online, only SP and LAN).
Anyway, I stopped that after few characters in D2R because I was constantly mixing them up because at that point I had like 3 Paladins and 3 Druids, then deleted all of them except for 1 Paladin and finally made a Javazon I have never played before with probably one of the stupidest names I have ever used and been using for a while in different games -- TheLady (tbch I maybe played about 2-3 'real' builds in general, ever, all others were something-in-between mix and matches of whatever I felt a cool skill is).
Current state is that I have a bunch of characters named in some correlation with the actual builds they revolve around (usually using synonyms but also some historical/mythical persons); so like cold Sorc is called GaleFrost, my homemade Auradin is SaintVindictus (ofc he's using Vengeance), fire Sorc is ScorchingComet, Smitter is MonkTheBonk, then I have YinYounger for dual (cold/fire) Bowazon (left myself a chance to make someone who will be something like TotalOlder or whatever), Slay-Air is the ThrowBarb but I also have DianaMoon (as Greek goddess with a bow) on my 2nd account who is physical Bowazon and SkeeterLongshot another ThrowBarb that I experimented with just for a little bit (Skeeter was some heroic Cherokee knife-thrower in WW2 and Longshot is apparently some Marvel character that throws stuff) and so on...
I really adore my Druid that was a runes mule (originally intended only for storage of Ral, Hel and Ber for trading purposes) that ended up being a Fire Bear which I named BerFromHel for obvious reasons -- he also still have some overflow of HRs so people usually see him when trading and some of you said they really liked his name

Someone much smarter than me already said once: "The real value of something doesn't reflect in a number of how much a seller can ask for it, but on how much a buyer is willing to pay."
OP
Best name ever haha we should have a rating system
O man, I love MTG references, last week I played some Baal runs with Syr Conrad, obviously also a necro. I guess it's time to create a Fireball sorc and name her Chandrahuman_being wrote: 4 months agoI either pick names I like (a lot of Russian and Spanish names) or basically click the random name generator button in my head and use whatever sounds good to me.
