TIL: Mercenary Portrait Covered by Window Is Still Interactable

Description

If the post title seems confusing to you, this is better explained in a video (credits to looter on YouTube): https://youtu.be/4HQfk_NEVEM?t=1630

At 27:11, he drops a weapon onto the top-left corner where the portrait of mercenary should be. While the portrait is still being covered by the
Horadric Cube
window, he successfully swapped the new weapon (Strength) with the previously equipped weapon (Insight). At 27:13 he swap them again.

For people who change merc loadout for different occasions, this trick can save you a few mouse clicks each time. Without this trick, I had to:
  • Empty out some space in my inventory (at least 2x4 for those giant polearms)
  • Move new equipment(s) from stash to inventory
  • Close the stash window (you can't open the merc window directly with the stash open)
  • Open both inventory and mercenary windows
  • Ctrl + Click to swap equipment(s)
  • Open up stash, move swapped equipment(s) back to stash
  • Repeat if there's more to swap
  • Undo the first step to fill my inventory back up. Now we are finally done.
With this newly learned trick I can just:
  • Open up stash
  • Click new equipment in stash
  • Drop it onto the covered merc portrait
  • Put old equipment back down since we're looking at the stash already
  • Repeat if there's more to swap
  • Close stash window. All done. No need to mess with my character's inventory
Someday when I can finally make a Faith bow, I'll definitely swap it back and forth on an A1 merc with my character stat window open just to watch the damage & AR numbers change.

Can be used to make Runewords:

Wow... I've been playing for all those years and I always thought you could only drop potions there. Amazing discovery, thank you!
