(this has been asked since way before Resurrected)
Not agreeing or disagreeing. But there is trade to consider:
Pretty sure this would have a very large impact on the game economy and would change trade forever. Whether that would be a good or a bad change, I don't really know. Could be very bad if there aren't enough players to absorb the influx of new runes. And I don't think you can expect a lot of new players from the SP community to fill that hole. Most won't care about a feature they already have. Besides I don't think many people SPers would like to lose the ability to use GoMule. And there's more to being an SPer than the /players command. For most, that's how we like to play games.
I would be good for it if they introduced a new game type, Online SP. But otherwise, I think it's a risk to an existing economy.

I really wonder about this command and how resurrected removed it from online servers.
It was never available on the online servers in LoD, D2R didn't remove it. The only way it could be used in a multiplayer setting was in a TCP/IP game.

Oh I didn't know that...
Just remembered the outrage of players that D2R launched without /players available 'online'.
