Description

Anyone ever tried? Just started giving it a try with my Lightning sorc in Act 1 Hell P7 and she seems to be obliterating everything so far. I never realized until recently the Lightning Mastery synergizes with it.

Using gear:

Dream Demonhead

Maras

Crescent Moon PB

Stormshield w/ Um (haven't been able to find or craft a 3 socketed Troll Nest for a Dream shield just yet, lol)

CTA PB+Spirit Monarch (w/ perfect 35% FCR) on swap

Skin of Vipermagi

Arachnid Mesh

Aldurs Advance

Magefist

Rare rings both w/ FCR+AR+res

Lightning Sunder (near perfect 71)

Also have Demon Limb for AR buff

Debating on ditching my Stormshield for a Dream Troll Nest to at least try it out. Curious if anyone else ever tried

Yes, this is similar to a well-known build. You need Dream on both the Helm and shield to do much damage, because of how the aura stacking mechanic works

Typically you run Enchant and Energy Shield and melee, not lightning. Here is a standard build, but there are lots of fun variaitions, so you should also experiment and search around for other setups

Because of the Dream shield, you are limited to 1H weapons. But it doesn't mean melee only. One possible variant is using a thrown weapon, such as Warshrike (this one has nice Pierce), so you can kill those tanky monsters who survived your aura from afar.

If you are not aware of it, when you have more than 1 item that gives a "radial damage" aura, the levels are added (like happens with any other aura), but the "radial damage" is also multiplied by the number of items (in practice each item generates a different "pulse")

So with 2 Dream, not only your Holy Shock level will increase from 15 to 30, but you will have two pulses.
maxroll do not compute this effect (known issue), so your radial damage will be in reality the double of what it shows up.

Another thing about "radial damage", that people sometimes forgot, is that the damage depends on the distance that monster is from you (it take the "base damage" a the max range, and it takes the double of the "base damage" when it is 0 yards from you)
So when you increase the aura level (which increase base damage and range) you also increase the "base damage multiplier" for the same distance (so you are in practice now dealing more damage to closer monster than the "simple" increase in "base damage" 😉 🤓)

Ex:
max range 10y, monster at 5y -> "base damage multiplier" = 1.50
max range 20y, monster at 5y -> "base damage multiplier" = 1.75

Correct.

This is why the strongest aura possible is a Dragondin's Level 44 Holy Fire (Double Dragon, Hand of Justice) supported by a Level 25 Conviction.

32 yards range. 3 pulses per tick. This aura melts anything that isn't fire immune in seconds even in a full multiplayer game.

The Dream Sorc has a hard time keeping up with this. But she's got Teleport and Static Field.

If you are not planning to do players 8, the Dream Sorc is fun!

Edit:
But I am not sure about this one:

According to this

post2396500.html#p2396500
Tooltip: The maximum Area Damage values now incorporate the maximum proximity damage bonus
the multiplier seems to be 0.5 (at max range) to 1 (at close range).

Can anyone prove this?

For low items I also accept: Perfect Amys, Ral, Hel, Tokens, Keys. Please don't offer runes lower than Pul (with the named exceptions).

This sounds like a fun build. I need 8 or so War Cry grand charms to complete my crying barbie which is a derivative of the powerful fast Nova sorceress.

The important thing is still true 😉👍 : monsters 0 yards from you takes double radial damage compared to Monsters at max range.

But not sure if the tooltip damage is the "far damage" or the "close damage"... 🤔
On maxroll, the reminder text of the skill seems to me that the damage indicated is the "far damage" (as it says "Area damage increases at closer range")

as an idea for the OP, consider the bear sorc build. crazy single target damage (like 50k per hit), melts down trash mobs things with Dream pulses.

cant Teleport though, and requires some expensive stuff to shine (Beast, CoH, extra Dream, in your case), but "you are a bear, Harry" :D so definitely worth to fry

Of course, the Nova Sorc is stronger and faster overall. Dream Sorc is kind of a trophy build. But if we would restrict ourselves to S-Tier builds only, we could end all conversation about different builds, and play Mosaic, Java and Nova forever.

A well equipped Dream Sorc can handle pretty much anything on P1, in some areas she is even faster than a Nova and she has a tad more magic find, because she doesn't need to hit that 105 FCR breakpoint. And it's a more laid-back gameplay. Nova has to be played aggressively, Dream Sorc is more on the defensive side. It's a matter of taste in the end.

If you do higher player counts, Dream Sorc is losing ground. I would never solo a full game baalrun with her. What I hate the most about her is that she is so squishy. Nova Sorc has Insight on merc and can take quite a beating plus she's able to stun enemies.
Dream Sorc has to rely on maxed Warmth... meh.

Sup D! Yes I have tried, I actually have 2x Dream Sorcs currently and can say it's really fun! The beauty is that you can get a decent MF chunk with this build and have no issues with damage including Cows in P3 or less.

But more importantly, what are you trying to do? Are you attempting to do Physical damage also or just whatever damage in general?

I'm excited for you! The small health pool monsters in high players count games she can deal with quite well.

Attack rating is essentially pointless with this build but ANY will help so of course boost if you feel. Enchant adds Fire damage also, so this can be handy. The problem with Lightning is it has the lowest Min Damage as well as the highest Max Damage, so one swing could do nothing, and the next hits for over 50K and kills Baal. It's kinda wild.

Obviously she's not ready until you use 2x pieces of Dream, but next on the list is OFC defense. You need to look at your stat points and figure out your balance of Health and Mana. Having high Mana to support Energy Shield is Key in this build, but having a low Health Pool behind it can be a serious issue, so balance is Key. I wholeheartedly recommend Holy Freeze Mercs for this build to face tank mobs. You only need to Static Field a few times and then just be close to enemies - so avoiding them is your only job and this can be easy, especially when they are Slow with HF Aura etc etc.

I recommend investing Max Points into Thunderstorm and getting this going as it can do insane Single Target damage every second.

It's soo much more fun to play than Nova IMO and has a nice Melee aspect too -as you swing when you've used Static Field and now have all the free time to take shots!

Compare by yourself. Nova vs. Dual Dream.

Both are able to solo Dia, but in terms of power, Nova is out of reach. Nevertheless, I like both.

For ES Sorceress, I generally prefer a Prayer merc with Cure (and Insight, if possible).

For low items I also accept: Perfect Amys, Ral, Hel, Tokens, Keys. Please don't offer runes lower than Pul (with the named exceptions).

It's sometimes difficult to compare builds because it really comes down to what build do you enjoy playing. I prefer builds with skills that respond quickly and puts on a good show. This is my Chain Lightning sorc clearing the Chaos Sanctuary in about 3 minutes. I'm not using Dream runeword. Note that I've added a Phoenix Shield to the build, for now.

Really cool man, I love what you've done and gone off-meta. Glad you're enjoying this setup!

I'm also wondering with some of the more difficult mobs you faced there, is it worth pumping 1x Static Field pulse before sending Chain Lightning? Most of those mobs wouldn't need it based on your video, but a few tougher ones might not like it! Let me know

You could but as you've noted it really isn't needed. All I do is proc Frozen Armor and then jump right in.

Thanks for interesting answer. Of course I agree with Dream being for more defensive style. To me there is nothing wrong with playing little chicken. :oD My last started char is Zoo druid on nightmare hardcore and trust me, I am just hidding behind pets all the time :oD The funniest defensive build to me will always be summon necro, where you wait till first monster die and than cast CE like madman :oD

Maybe my problem with Dream build is that it was my first more expensive build. And I was expecting HUGE things. So that is why I was so dissapointed. I mean if I compare it with my Fury druid? Ok, Metas were little expensive, but the rest of it is IDK, nothing special, BotD, maybe Forti, cannot remember now. But he is still my safest Uber killer. And he really does not wear anything exceptional.

And another reason might be I cannot play well with some characters. I always hear like Hammerdin is awesome... Man, finishing the game with him was terrible pain in the a__ for me. And he had all the stuff prepared. So yeah, you were very true than it would be boring if everyone used only S tiers. So ok, of course anyone can try Dream sorc, but don´t expect too much I would say.
