Description

I have a 4OS Superior
Balrog Skin
with 13 ED. Thinking of making a Fortitude in this for my
Frenzy
barb. It has a little more defense than my 4OS
Archon Plate
(500 DF vs. 585 DF)?

Can be used to make Runewords:

pro-better looking, more defence
con-million gold to repair, only 30 durability

thats a lot of strength required. could be a problem if want to transfer this to other chars to use.

85 def difference is a lot when 300% ED considered with Fortitude.
and I agree, better looking.

Well, only 518 of the 585 is base def. As such, you're looking at 18 more defense to be multiplied by fort's ED when comparing to that
Archon Plate
. The remaining 67 remain as is and aren't multiplied with the ED on Fortitude, the superior-ED is simply added to it. Though the sum total is then still multiplied out by subsequent modifiers (skills and whatnot).

Either way, the defense is solid on both.

Repair costs I personally don't consider much of a factor since gold isn't exactly hard to come by.

The str reqs are significantly higher than some alternatives though possibly still lower than some other parts of your gear (esp. if you upgrade those). Even if not however, str isn't wasted on a barb as it turns into extra ed/dmg so that's not too bad.

The one thing to really note though imo is that balrog skins are medium armor and as such will slow you down more than a light
Archon Plate
would. On a perma-running char like a
Frenzy
barb, to me, that alone would be more than reason enough to not use a
Balrog Skin
.
