Runes used to display White text (versus the orange in D2:R).

I must have missed unbelievable runes playing many moons ago. One of the best QoL changes IMO.

You are right. What prompted that change?

It would be rather easy from a programming stance to gather stats that will indicate what items are missed on a play through.

I guess remastering prompted the change but I just find it insane that a
Zod
could drop with White text as it did for so many years.

They were orange in D2 LoD. In the later versions at least. 1.12 onwards?

Oh okay, thought D2R changed it. Anyway...insane lol.

Runes were changed to orange text in 1.13 of original D2 back in 2010.
