Nope.
The Bash mercs can equip one sword at a time which may be a 2-hander.
The Frenzy mercs can equip two swords but they have to be 1-handers. No 1-handing 2-handed swords.
Choice of weapon/runeword/base/... depends on what you want your merc to focus on and what build he's supposed to support.
