One of the new patch 2.4 Runewords, Pattern is considered a mid-game item suitable for Assassins; particularly those heavily invested in Blade Traps or the Martial Arts tree. In the former case, this runeword is eventually abandoned in favor of Plague. In the latter, Mosaic is preferred.

Pattern was ladder only during Patch 2.4 and Patch 2.5 (Ladder Season 1 & 2). Since Patch 2.6 (Ladder Season 3) it is possible to create Pattern in non-ladder.
