At this point, it's starting to feel like we're pretty much beta testing some new "live modifiers" feature, masked as an event
I was thinking the exact same thing and this is most likely the case
No harm in this, really, I welcome this sort of beta testing.
If we're going to be subject to this, then I would like to see something interesting. Draw some inspiration (but maybe with a little more restraint) from the Street Fighter II': Champion Edition bootleggers. Or at least try to pull off the more polished versions of the buffs like Capcom officially did with SF2 Turbo.
I realize it's probably too much work for this crew, but at least it would put some spice into these decreasingly relevant three weeks of buffs.
Also, what would be more festive than actually making the game look the part? The previous gameplay buffs like double health should have come with 24-hour oskills. The Throne of Destruction also looks more fun when there's a Sanctuary Aura in the room.
I'm also a fan of screen spam (other than revives and unwanted loot), and there are few things more enjoyable with my spearazon than a nonstop torrent of Poison Nova from fending flayers. Brand is the greatest runeword that nobody ever uses.
I could come up with more ideas, but I'm competing with increased health regeneration.

That being said, since I am trying to test something out, if they intend to stay on the gameplay buff track, they should try double run/walk speed next.
There we go. +100% move speed buff today. If anyone has been wanting to start new characters but dreads laboring through the first several acts, today would be the day because stamina shouldn't be as much of an issue.
TZ pub games should be more accessible as well, provided that the TZ isn't a labyrinth or door/barricade-heavy level.
Also time to see some running vs. teleporting racing competitions.
Going back to normal speeds after today will be difficult.

If this is the case, I hope for more challenges rather than buffs...

Seems at least they do not want to ban us for that XD
Just adding more folks to the list. Ban gets sent out as a proper Christmas gift.
(Genuinely would not even surprise me..would be a very Blizz thing to do)

Solid reason to not exploit their incompetence. Some trav runs in between to refill the gold pool does make it a lot less monotonous.
(And barely takes any longer)

Even the gambling puts me to sleep, yet alone the infinite gold abuse. I've done about 30 mins of gambling and I can't take it any more, I'm not built for this kind of grind, I need to kill things
