Adding (or 'contributing') an entry to the database involves gathering all of the data for the entry being considered, and then entering these values on the New Contribution page.

Special notes for new contribution types

Monsters
Contributions for monsters are staged. First, a base contribution is made for the monster with some basic information. Then after that, 'auxiliary' contributions are made for each of its variants. For example, the monster
Mummy
. It has 5 variations, so in total there will be 6 contribs to fully populate its data (1 main + 5 variants).

To make an auxiliary contribution after your main one is processed, just visit that Monster and click one of the available slots to start an auxiliary contrib for one of the monster's variants. Please don't change the name of the contribution, it will look something like: Rakanishu 1 or Fallen 4.
Please refer to the attached 'contributorpack.zip' file which contains all the graphics to use for Monster type entries, as well as all other 'new' v0.3 contribution entries. You can still use the graphics from arreat - I've made sure that everything is lined up for filenames - just whatever you do please don't change the filenames! :P
Deciding on the right 'no. of boxes occupied' (the field called itype) is tricker with Monsters. With items it's easy to remember or see what size they are. But with Monsters it's a totally different game. Have a look at the graphic's dimensions (in your pack) and refer to this list for guidance:
  • Only '
    Megademon
    ' type monsters occupy a 'Wingspan' slot
  • Typically Bosses and really big things go in the 'X-Large' slot - but it's hard to tell - so make sure your graphic is 350x350px
  • Large-ish Monsters go in the 'Large' slot - but don't risk it - check that the dimensions of your graphic are 250x250px
  • Humanoid or 'NPC' sized Monsters go in the 'Medium' slot - any graphics going into this slot must be 150x200px
  • Tiny things like
    Leaper
    and bats etc. go in the 'Small' slot - please ensure your graphic is 100x100px.
Superuniques can have their treasure class added - see Khegan's post here for a complete list you can use for these types of value.

Lastly, Arreat will have most of the textual info you'll need, but for Superunique monsters and some fields you'll have to look elsewhere. Also please be careful about the difference between imagic description and ilore - they change purpose depending on what type of contribution you're making.

As always, please read every guidance tooltip carefully when you're making your submission..
Skills
Like Monsters, Skill-type contributions are also staged. First a base contribution is made for the skill with basic info. After that, you're able to click through to the skill and see how many 'properties' there are left to populate with auxiliary contributions. A 'property' means something like 'Mana Cost' and all it's data for levels 1-60 of the skill; on Arreat these are expressed as rows in the tables.

Areas
Areas require a few extra resources. You'll want to have this spreadsheet open and next to it this one as well. They're used together to populate the fields where you list the monsters that can spawn in this area.

Also, you'll want to use this page for area levels, and this topic for speedrunning pathing. Arreat will suffice for the rest. Any questions feel free to PM me.
NPCs, Quests, Quest Items, Misc Items
Ignore any previous contributions for these items, as the system has changed now and won't accept the old ones. I'll try where I can to salvage and credit the old descriptions people made before.

Be very clear about the difference between an item that is a reward from a quest and an item that is involved in the quest, but not a reward. These are two separate things as far as the site is concerned, so please don't put an item as being both. It's either a reward for actually completing a quest, or it's not (in which case there are other fields to populate for the item's source).
Update item to v0.3
This mini-contribution type allows you to update items with: max sockets by ilvl, treasure class & quality level, and upped/ethereal/ebugged values as appropriate. Please read the tooltips carefully for guidance here.

For treasure class and quality level, please refer to @Udyret's post over here - it's a list of all unique/set item quality level/treasure class. Almost completed now so not worth starting contributing if you were thinking about it.

For upped/ethereal values for weapons, you'll want to use this spreadsheet put together by @Khegan. Almost completed now so not worth starting contributing if you were thinking about it.

For max sockets by ilvl, please use this page as your reference - the long list is what you're interested in. For base body armor/shields/helmets that can be ebugged, Noemard is putting together a spreadsheet for max sockets by ilvl and ethereal/

How to add an entry to the database (general)

There are two ways to check if an item has already been contributed - either by searching for the item and then seeing if the 'Contribute Data' button is visible, or by searching this forum for the keywords to see if anyone has made a contribution with the same title before. Lastly, you can filter by 'No data' on any category page to see items with no data yet.

When you're sure this item/entry is not a duplicate/has already been submitted, enter the item's name and select the category (or 'rarity') of the item (eg. Unique, Set, Base, Recipe, Monster, Skill etc.) - after this the form will automatically update to present you with only the necessary fields for that category/rarity (saving you a lot of time).

For the rest of the form, hover over each field and you'll get a tooltip that describes the purpose of the data to be entered and how to present it. It's important that you pay attention to this guidance, otherwise the database won't be filled correctly. If a field is inapplicable (N/A) then just leave it blank.

Remember that once submitted, the form can't be edited again easily, so make sure you double check everything before you hit Submit. Once you have submitted the contribution, I will review it and then import this data into the database with a command, which will in turn populate that item/entry's page with your data.

Don't forget that if you're in doubt about the quality of the source, you can always check the actual .txt files themselves using this compact spreadsheet of 1.14 files. As promised, find attached the 'pack' containing all the graphics for new-type contributions:

You've successfully contributed to the database project, yay :D Whilst there are no forum rewards for submitting contributions at present, the number of submissions you make is being recorded automatically and I promise that in the near future there will be a very cool reward for everyone who has been involved :)
