Description

War Scepters (and their other scepter cousins) have seemingly few uses, as there are few late game runewords that players would want to make with a socketed scepter.

Unless you're a martial arts Assassin seeking to take advantage of the Rift runeword.

Rift is best made using a
War Scepter
or a
Caduceus
because of their high base attack speed. As these so-called Riftsins do not rely whatsoever on their weapons' base damage (their physical damage is calculated by the type of boots worn), the low base damage of these scepters is irrelevant for a Rift. Because Assassins have no use for Paladin skill bonuses, a clean 4-socketed scepter is preferred to minimize repair costs.

While the Strength requirement of a
War Scepter
is not quite as low as that of the
Crystal Sword
or
Double Axe
, it is only marginally higher. The potential for staffmods such as up to +3 to
Meditation
,
Redemption
,
Salvation
,
Vigor
, and/or
Holy Shield
can provide additional utility to a Paladin's Call To Arms. Call to Arms is unlikely to become damaged and will thereby avoid the exorbitant repair costs that come with such staffmods. There is a decent incentive to do this even for non-Paladins, as it may increase the trade value of the weapon down the line.

War Scepter
and its upgrades could be incredibly valuable bases when they roll useful mods like +3 to
Fist of the Heavens
or
Conviction
.
