Description
I run a Blizz Sorc for magic-finding and Key-farming, but with only cold damage I have to rely on my Merc pretty heavily in many places.
I also have Firewall maxed, but it doesn't seem to be that effective and is kind of boring to use.
What you recommend to supplement Blizzard & Ice Blast to deal with cold immunes? Chain Lightning? Fireball?

I have a hybrid Blizz/ Chain Lightning and it works pretty well. Can farm in most areas (except WSK).
Allows you to be mobile but the issue is Chain Lightning can eat up alot of mana.

It's not going to be strong as a full Blizzard sorc but it allow flexibility against immunes. Off the top of my head I maxed out blizz/ Glacial Spike, Cold Mastery I get to -100 resists base, maxed out Chain Lightning/ Lightning Mastery/any extra points dump into lightning.QuixoticGerbil wrote: 2 years agoHow do you split up the skill points between the two? /used her to farm Shenk/Eldritch/ Ancient Tunnels/Pits/Pindle/Meph/Cows/Andy/Countess/Summoner/Diablo

Depends what areas you farm, I farm Chaos Sanctuary, Travincal, ans Arcane Sanctuary so blizz / firewall (8k or 10k dmg) fireawall is good for all kinds of cold imune casters/ bows to make it work on meles I just tp my merc in front of them, this way they stand still and get cooked, need to cast 2 firewalls to get the full dmg. I tried Chain Lightning / blizz but lightning will never work without investing everything in it and having Infinity and griffons.

Yeah, teleporting onto cold immunes with my merc is always pretty effective but I was looking for something a bit more active and effective than Firewall.
I'm trying out Chain Lightning which is kind of nice, but the damage output really doesn't cut it for higher level areas.
I'll probably respec to pure Blizzard at some point.

I just like to walk around and crowd controll, the idea is to not run, just walk during fights

I suggest you max the blizzard and Ice Blast, fire ball and Meteor. This is also how I set up my skill points. Kill cold immune with fire ball. Not very fast but effective enough depending on your gears.
Gear-wise, you can use Death fathom, mara, Shako, Stormshield. cold gc + fire facet.

How much damage do you get from Fireball?
Also why do you use Stormshield as opposed to Spirit? The main way I stay alive is with Teleport, so I don't see the point in giving up the +Skills & FCR.

I get 2000 damage from Fireball. It's not very high because I don't have some gears such as mara ulc soj.
Stormshield and Spirit lead to different types of sor.
Stormshield: block sor. We add character points on flexibility until she gets 75% block rate. This makes the sor much safer than vit sor because 3/4 physical attack will be blocked by the shield. Also, the 35% damage reduce is good on you. The disadvantage is much less vitality and less efficient.
Spirit: Vit sor. We don't add any flexibility so we can improve vitality more than block sor. You may get 400 blood than block sor, along with higher mana and skill levels. You become more efficient but easier to die.
It is up to you to choose block or vit. Personally I like block type.
For fcr of Ice&fire sor, I think 63 fcr is ok. Next level for sor is 105 fcr (100 fcr has the same effect as 63fcr)

I use Frozen Orb / Chain Lightning sorc for farm. Orb then 2 ch lightnings during cast delay and so on.

I can't, for example, one-shot Pindleskin and his folks like pure Blizzard socr, but they also go down fast. And I don't have problems with the immune monsters.

I based mine on Frozen Orb/Lightning with the following build:
20p - Ice Bolt
20p - Frozen Orb
20p - Lightning
20p - Lightning Mastery
1p - Cold Mastery
1p - Static Field
1p - Teleport
1p - Warmth
and the rest placed in Charged Bolt
It did well in HC also and was able to gear my Bonemancer pretty fast.
