Interestingly, even though Wirt's Leg can drop with 1-3 sockets, it cannot be used to make a runeword.
However, a normal non-socketed Wirt's Leg can indeed be imbued by Charsi to make a rare version of it. If imbued in this manner, it may still be used as a reagent to open the Portal to the Secret Cow Level.

You can make a magical Wirt's Leg if you find a socketed one and put it in the cube with 3 normal gems.
Then you can use the the craft recipe for maces: Tir + Perfect Sapphire + Magic Jewel + Magical Wirt's Leg to get a crafted Wirt's Leg.
