This orb provides almost everything a Sorceress could ask for: +Skills, Faster Cast Rate, Resistances, and high Magic Find. It is considered a ‘best in slot’ item.

Generally, it's often replaced by something more specific later on, such as

Death's Fathom for a Cold build.

Unfortunately, it's also notorious for sending frail Sorceresses to their deaths due to the high chance of

Teleport being cast in a random direction.

Teleport at random - in practice, you'll actually find it saves you ~90% of the time.

The one definite weakpoint of

The Oculus is fighting clustered ranged attackers. Getting hit can trigger

Teleport in a tedious fashion, so you'll need to be aware of projectiles.

Shortly after its release, I had found the pre-nerfed version of "

The Oculus." Its original stats in v1.08 were:

+2 To Sorceress Skill Levels
+0.5 To Mana per Character Level
3% Chance to Cast a Level 10

Teleport When Struck
Hit Slows Target By 20%
+2 Mana After Each Kill
Adds 10-20 Lightning Damage

I had traded it for the updated version but soon regretted it. The simple fact that it was pre-nerfed had a lot of people wanting to buy them up back then.
