Description

A Herald is a new monster variation in Reign of the Warlock that can only appear in Hell difficulty, in terrorized zones. They are spawned by killing enough monsters in terrorized zones.

All Herald monsters have a chance of dropping the new Sunder Charms (like Latent Bone Break for example).

Every time a Herald is killed, the next time one spawns, it will be of a higher tier. There are five tiers of Herald. The lowest tier is the weakest and has normal drops, whereas the higher tiers can drop more items and get progressively stronger with every spawn.
Name Drops
Herald of Fright Normal drops
Herald of Dread Normal drops
Herald of Fear Normal drops + 1 extra item
Herald of Horror Normal drops + 1 extra item
Herald of Terror Normal drops + 2 extra items
Heralds always have an aura. Every Herald that spawns after Herald of Terror will be a Herald of Terror.

Heralds always spawn with aura enchanted, but they can spawn with 2 auras at once, and the second aura can be outside of the normal pool of aura enchanted auras.

In the example below, the Herald spawned with Both Fanaticism aura and Thorns aura.
Double aura enchanted Herald with both the Thorns and Fanaticism Auras

Patch 3.2 Herald Mechanics

Whether playing online or offline any tier of Herald can drop a Latent Sunder.

Herald Drops
  • Latent Sunder Charms are no longer restricted to Heralds and can now drop from any monster, whether they are in Terror Zones or not. Take note that it does require you to have Magic Find in some capacity to make this work.
  • Heralds at Tier 3 and 4 have twice the increased chance to drop a Latent Sunder Charm.
  • Heralds at Tier 5 have three times the increased chance.
  • Lower chance for Heralds to drop Unique, Set, and Rare items.
Fighting a Herald
  • Herald spawn chance depends entirely and exclusively on your “zone completion percentage”. Essentially, the more of an area you explore and rid of monsters, the more likely a Herald will spawn.
  • Heralds of Terror now spawn upon killing any monster in a Terror Zone. This implies that you no longer have to gain their “Ire” for them to start hunting you.
  • A lightning storm will appear on top of the slain monster when a Herald is about to spawn. You have 5 seconds to prepare!
  • Herald Tiers now increase when a Herald is spawned instead of when killed.
  • Reduced the difficulty of Heralds above Tier 1.
  • Health bonus per Tier reduced 500% to 250% (starts at 1000%).
  • Damage bonus per Tier reduced from 50% to 25% (starts at 50%).

A barbarian can hork (Item Find) a Herald corpse and that corpse can produce a Latent Sunder Charm.
7
If possible, avoid spawning Herald from minions of the »flying« type (e.g. Blood Hawk, Finger Mage, etc). They may fly over impassable territory and then
a) be impossible to kill, thus hindering your progression or
b) don't drop anything (in this case, horking may still be possible).

Also avoid Frozen Horror type if you intend to get your barb for the kill and hork them, as they leave no corpse.

The increased chance to drop a Latent Sunder Charm from Heralds now starts at Tier 1 instead of Tier 4.
The increased chance to drop a Latent Sunder Charm from Heralds is no longer modified by player count. This is an increase in drop rates for solo players.
Heralds at Tier 3 and 4 have twice the increased chance to drop a Latent Sunder Charm. Heralds at Tier 5 have three times the increased chance.
Fixed Herald of Terror's Thorns Aura procs twice for every player hit.
Slightly reduced the chance for Heralds to drop Unique, Set, and Rare items.
Heralds now spawn and hunt players upon killing any monster in a Terror Zone. The chance for a Herald to hunt you is increased with each monster killed within the same Terrorized Zone.
A lightning storm will appear on top of the slain monster when a Herald is about to spawn. You have 5 seconds to prepare!
Herald Tiers now increase when a Herald is spawned instead of when a Herald is killed.
Reduced the difficulty of Heralds above Tier 1.
Health bonus per Tier reduced 500% to 250% (starts at 1000%).
Damage bonus per Tier reduced from 50% to 25% (starts at 50%).
Fixed an issue where the Thorns aura from Heralds would hit twice.
