I put together a Smiter for the new Uber ancients... I decided that I needed those new jewels in my gear and I was told they were very hard to get. Everyone on Reddit is freaking out that all their characters are dying and "maybe" the theorycrafters will have a solution soon....I had to trade a lot of items... but I ended up with:
Level 87 Paladin with 11 skills left, 25 stats, didn't do any of the life potion or stat quests.
Last Wish
Chains of Honor AP
Crown of Ages
Exile Ethereal Vortex Shield w/ +45 res
Metalgrid
Raven Frost
Wisp Projector
Thundergod's Vigor
Gore Rider
Laying of Hands
6/6/2 Call To Arms
Spirit
Treachery Mage Plate for prebuff
So, I kill the uber ancients the first time... no problem, no potions, no big deal. I get my first jewel
+9 light
-7 LR
+4 EXP
20 MF
and i look up the prices.......
yeah so i just setup a character that cost idk 20-25 Jah or whatever for jewels that are worth Sur.. or something
Good lord ... anything else this character might be good at?

30-50 Jah O.o?
Did you get perfect everything for your build?

I'm not playing D2 as much as before. I'm too lazy to edit all my trade prices. Offer me something reasonable and I'll probably accept.
OP
i['m just guessing.. perhaps that was a little high. perhaps more like 20-25... the shield was 15 alone
either way, the point is that i should have looked at the prices ... for 15 Jah i could have bought all my characters uber jewels
I wasn't judging you. I haven't been following the markets much recently so was thinking maybe they'd shifted.
Yea, those jewel prices tanked a lot, even before the patch.

yeah... i didn't realize that. I caught on to the statues pretty early on and the sunders.... idk why i thought those jewels were out of my price range. i was so caught up in preparing for the patch. i created so many characters in anticipation and just started gearing them. i did make a 6/6/4 and 6/6/2 Call To Arms that i was pretty happy about... but i also made a AmnMalRalIstOhm Crystal Sword.. so idk...Knappogue wrote: 1 hour agoI wasn't judging you. I find this kinda funny because It’s like tcg pack openers vs single buyers. One saves time and money, while the other spends time and money for thrills. Same goals just different expectations in the journey
Did you test if it’s the same results with an extra player in the game. Cause if so you can set up a players request for like an Ist or something. Put that character to work haha

Did u kill Talic first? He actually has more threats than the other when only 2 left. But honestly it would not be much difference to you considering your gear and preparation before you actually execute.StoBeast wrote: 2 hours ago……

I kill Korlic first. I was targeting a lightning jewel... I've killed them all sorts of ways... it doesn't even matter (in my case). I don't even need to proc Fade first. I was being extra careful with that, but it's really not necessary. I was going to add two Ber's to the Crown and try to get some 20IAS 10 crushing blow gloves.. but again, it's just not needed. There is nothing about this fight that is difficult or leaves you scrambling. Every post i've read online is wayy too much crying over what seems to be nothing.Flyhorse wrote: 1 hour agoDid u kill Talic first? He actually has more threats than the other when only 2 left. The hardest thing about the fight is clicking on the second two big guys after you kill the first... there are so many bodies in the way, it's hard to click the right one...
have you think about add another wisp and Cham, rising sun and/or hell mouth?
cb help a little bit, in case of cb, Goblin Toe. maybe better. and ias, you need to run simulator, sometimes 20 ias = nothing.
paladin's defense help but not that much...it is perfect shield...sure.
Your all res is petty high, you may consider Guardian Angel or shiftstop....

Please be aware, all my trade is in non ladder d2r. Not warlock.
Judging it off one single jewel is pretty childish. Obviously the recoup will happen when you hit high rolls that people pay a lot for. Especially when you said how simple & easy it was to do, I really don't see the issue here lol. Seems like a easy way to print moneyStoBeast wrote: 2 hours agoI put together a Smiter for the new Uber ancients... Last Wish is overkill if you already have Exile, you can do with just Grief and maybe sell the Last Wish to get some runes back. Also the 6-6 CTA and perfect Exile base are min-max OCD items, 40ish all res shield and any roll CTA make very little impact in practice. It's boggling to me go through the trouble of getting all that gg gear and not do the A3 side quests. In any case you could probably sell them and swap for less perfect stuff and get some value back.
The bare minimum I'm comfortable with doing ancients is all res capped, Fanaticism (which means no Salvation and probably need for Treachery prebuff), Grief (needed to kill minions before they can respawn as low damage weapong with lots of crushing blow doesn't cut it), a consistent source of LT which could be either Exile or Dracul's + marrowalk or Wand on swap, whatever source of CB and OW, and cta pre-buff. Elemental Absorb optional.
You can possibly get away with even less than that but I don't recomend it.
I think all the freaking out thing you've seen is for hardcore (justified fear in any slight difficulty increase) and early ladder implications. A smiter can do normal ubers with little more than Goblin toes, Dracul's, and high level Conviction aura only for Meph to cheese his own Conviction. I'm not saying it's impossible to pull off ancients with the same gear but I highly discourage it.
Before the patch, I had been doing both ancients and normal ubers with a sort of lazy hybrid that has a lot of +skills which allow me to clear mini uber dungeons easily with FoH, enough res to beat Meph Conviction without neither my own Conviction or Treachery pre-buff, and no CTA because my only source of LT proc was Dracul's, so I had LT Wand on swap for initial application. The whole idea was to never have to swap gear because I hate that.
Patch forced me to change to something closer to your build, most important difference is the things I pointed out in my first paragraph, and I also have my old gear on the stash to swap it for normal ubers.
As for your question of what else to do with the character, if you keep some +skills gear in your stash like Heaven's Light and upped HoZ, with only 40 points spent in FoH and the Holy Bolt sinergy you can clear Chaos Sanctuary almost as fast as a javazon. You should have enough points for the rest of the build after that

his main cost is on shield, that is unnecessarily to achieve this result.
Other thing , just okay. LW , 8 Jah that can replace by other things. like Grief.
Even it is very expensive, those item worth it. It is totally fine to play it like that and run a lot...
I think in future , those item may only frop value from 25 Jah to 10 Jah. By then , if he keeps play, he can earn more than 100 Jah.
Those item preserve value , it drop very slow...Likely, 1 season drop total value 1 Jah.

I have not considered any changes, as this kills them with no potions, no prebuff (i did it at first to be careful) and no worries at all. it's as calm as can be.. just stand there and hold the mouse button for 30-45 seconds about three times.
however, if i lsot the ias on the gloves, id have to get it elsewhere. Do you find a real need for fire absorb or something? this doesn't seem to be any kind of issue for me

I don't kill the minons.. i dont even have a point into Zeal. I can't figure out why you'd kill the minions... when the big ones die, the others go with themchoma90 wrote: 18 minutes agoLast Wish is overkill if you already have Exile, you can do with just Grief and maybe sell the Last Wish to get some runes back. yeah, the shield may have wasted 7 Jah on 5 to all res... oops
All 15 minions do a lot of damage and won't allow you to move freely, which is specially important if you want to kill Korlic last, I've been trying to keep it under 10 minions before the first ancient dies, then kill his correspondent minions which won't respawn anymore. Only then I focus on the next and leave the minions alone. I haven't tried ignoring them at all since patch and the only time I died ever was pre-patch while ignoring them, so there may be a little trauma on my part there, but so far killing them a bit has worked for me.StoBeast wrote: 7 minutes agoI don't kill the minons.. i dont even have a point into Zeal.
