Description
VV panelists described the game as a 'remaster' that preserves the original game and not a 'remake', which they say would be totally different.

With Blizzard we're creating new games - one of our design philosophies is to 'find the fun' - and when we were looking at D2 again, we very felt much like the fun is still there. So it's actually one of our core pillars for Diablo 2 Resurrected specifically was to keep the fun. And keep that at it's core.
And because of that we're looking at it more as a remaster at that point, and what can we do based on what the community wants and what features are actually necessary for making this game run on modern day systems and stuff like that.

Also we want to thank and appreciate the fan base - this is really a true nod to the original game. We want to preserve that game and the structure of that game as much as we can. If we went with the remake, it would be a complete different game. So that's the reason why I think we chose this.
The taint of the botched Warcraft 3 remake still lingers amongst Blizzard fans and a lot of people will be looking at D2R with healthy skepticism as a result.
Perhaps this little soundbite was a marketing strat to change the language people use to describe D2R so they don't associate it with WC3R?
