Is Infinity self-wield your sorc or your sorc's Merc? If it's self-wield, why does she also need HOTO?

The primary attributes of a HOTO includes +3 to all skills, 40% faster cast rate and 30-40% all resists, and because it's a one handed carry you can use a shield on your offhand such as Spirit runeword.

I thought Hoto was required to make
Conviction okay on mercs with Infinity. I think this was my last GG/uber char. Sorry I have a life outside Diablo so I don't study its scriptures.
