Description
I posted some things for trade and got an offer on one. How is trading usually done? if you want to negotiate I assume you message the person that made the offer or do you do it on the post? Also if you accept an offer do you say so on the post or do you message them directly? To make the trade do you add them as a friend and then send them a message or what? Please excuse my ignorance.

You can message people directly but i prefer to do everything under the post personally. When I'm happy w an offer i just add them and write a reply that i've added them. Most trades here, you'll add eachother on b.net to join through friends and complete the trade that way. But sometimes they'll give you a game name/password to join

There is no right or wrong way (unless you're a Scammy McScammer) to accomplish a trade. However the most common way that it is done here is you post offers and counter offers in the trade post itself. Then once a price is accepted you move the conversation to battle net, or xbox, psn, etc to coordinate a time to meet up and trade.

Wecome to D2. Io. If you;re looking to make a purchase then search trade for the item/s you're looking for. If there is a fixed price and it's within a range you're able and willing to pay then leave a message and ask when they're available to trade. They will add you on B-net where you will receive a friend request and a message. From there you make arrangements on making the exchange. If they're looking for offers then leave a bid and the will either except or reject it, or someone else might outbid you. If your offer is accepted then follow the instructions and go from there.

At its core, the trading section of this site is pretty much an open auction system.
- Sellers put something up for bid/buyers put up an ask (may or may not include a "buy it now" price, either way is perfectly fine, although some get cranky if there isn't one)
- Bidders submit their offers openly in that trade topic
- Trade owner may respond with counter-offers
- Once both sides are happy they'd typically indicate that within the same topic (e.g. trade owner making post to accept offer or bidder to accept counter-offer)
- Whomever confirmed will then typically add the other side on b.net so that they can arrange a meeting in-game to do the actual trade (if they don't, just add them instead, no reason to not be proactive)
I'd say that's the most common approach and it keeps things transparent for everyone involved, including other potential bidders.
Some people prefer to submit their bids privately, via PM or on b.net, presumably so they don't continue bidding -> potentially drive up the pricing on the thing they're trying to buy, effectively sabotaging the trade owner on his own trade. I (and many) have never been a fan of that and prefer open bidding to the point where those private ones regularly just get ignored entirely.
Plus they regularly tend to be unnecessarily complicated/cryptic to work out as they don't bother looking at what else you have for sale. So you end up getting a PM along the lines of "O Ist for your amu!" while you have 13 amulets up for sale and have no clue what that bid is actually for.
On occasion, especially with a BIN price listed, someone may opt to just immediately add you on b.net so as to try to speed up the process a bit.
And equally on occasion (VERY rarely in my experience) someone may want to forego the b.net addition entirely and will just send you a game name/pass via PM (or in the trade topic) instead. Though that is rare and I have yet to see it actually work reliably as you still need timing to line up and they tend to forget to include their region and all that jazz. I have seen that lead to multiple complaints to us mods about perceived scamming attempts though, simply because it is so unusual here, so I'd actively advise against that approach.
