Description

I'm trying to decide if I should put 20 points into
Conviction
to deal with physical immunities via elemental weapons, such as Voice of Reason, Rift, etc. (for PvM).

Something like this: https://www.icy-veins.com/d2/paladin-sk ... *--15*--&1

Or would those points in
Conviction
be wasted? Either, would 1 point be enough, or would I be better off just using
Fanaticism
with an elemental weapon? Is the loss of AR from Fan make
Conviction
not worth it?

If not
Conviction
, I would put those points into defensive skills.

Can be used to make Runewords:

It's hard to give suggestions without knowing your gear. What's your current weapon setup? What do you use on switch, and do you have access to
Decrepify
/Amp? There are few (non-undead) mobs that are unbreakable when they spawn with Stone skin, but you could always run from those unless you feel that's not an option.

Without knowing any of your gear, i can say its wasted. Go for max physical dmg (in general) and
get your merc reapers toll and you will deal just fine with phys immu.

Well, I'm only level 50 now. But the though was that with an elemental weapon and
Conviction
, breaking their immunity wouldn't matter, just hit them with elemental damage.

I guess a better question is, when using a weapon like Rift or Voice of Reason against a Physically Immune mob, would you do more damage with
Conviction
or
Fanaticism
? Assume that both are at level 20.

Slam a value point in
Vengeance
instead. Much more efficient and DPS is about the same except for huge phys immune mobs (which are moderately far between)

Conviction
is definitely better if you're going for a build that uses either of these, but in your case I wouldn't bother spending a single point in
Conviction
.
Frozen Orb
will clean up nicely on its own without it.

I'm not a fan of the
Vengeance
route. I may just do some testing in SP and see how it goes. The nice thing about taking
Conviction
for 20 is it opens up more opportunities for partnering.

But still, if its not worth it for soloing PvM I probably won't. If its not needed then I'll put the points into defensive skills.

Thanks

Actually, I'm going for an Act 1 merc with Ice. Something different, and I like the archers with a tank, plus tired of Acts 2 merc.

Vengeance
for pala still means you're clickin on each mob personally - this is why most palas are hammers/tesladins/occasional dragons. Aside from torch-huntin smiters, ofc. This is what prevents me personally, for example, from most melee classes - a necessity to click each particular mob 😒

Against PI undead (those nasty Wraiths!)
Sanctuary Aura
can be used:

Arreat Summit: Ignores Physical Resistances and Immunities Of Undead Monsters.
Amazon Basin: Damage Resist of undead is pierced: the supplier's physical damage is applied as though undead have DR 0%, even when Immune to Physical. However, DR % is not pierced when calculating Crushing Blow damage: it remains completely ineffective against Immune to Physical undead.

True, but I just use Lawbringer and keep
Fanaticism
on in areas with undead PIs.
