D2R on Ubuntu

Hey all!

I'm back into D2R after a short break, but as i had to change my OS, just installed D2R into my Ubuntu. I'm here to share my experience.

1) Runned the battle.net installer using Steam using Games | Add a non-Steam game to my library. Just pick the .exe as usual;

2) Battle.net.exe will be added to your library. Right-click it and go Properties | Compatibility. Then, check "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool." I'm using Proton Experimental, i can't tell if other versions will work as well. (refer the printscreen).

3) Now, just run Battle.net via steam, log your account and install D2R as you would on Windows.

4) After the instalation, run Battle.net via steam, login and then play as usual. Finally, you have two options:
4a) Create a barbarian and name him Sudo_Bash.
4b) Create a summon necro and name him Sudoers_Legion.

Thanks for sharing this! Nice to see another way to play d2r on linux. I play thru lutris on manjaro / arch, but this seems to be an easier approach. How is the login thru bnet? i still face some (minor) bugs with the bnet client. For example, i got to click update and wait a sec everytime after login.

Hey sudo brother!

The login on bnet is as usual, but you need to run the launcher through steam. But then it goes as it was in windows. I did not noticed any bugs, at least at the moment. I did not noticed this latency while updating, as you mentioned. Maybe it is a lutris thing?

I saw a lot of people using lutris, but as i already had proton through steam, i was willing to give it a shot first. Worked really well!

I'm using ubuntu, the most recent LTS. I was kinda worried about using ubuntu at first, due to maybe a NVIDIA GPU conflict with anything? But this driver/compatibility thing was super smooth, so yeah, sticking with ubuntu for now lol.
