Act 2 Merc aura very slow to activate

Research says their might aura is actually an attack and the merc needs to be put into battle in order for the aura to be activated.

This being said, are there any good workarounds for this?

I've been doing Trav runs with my barb and I've been going into LK first to look for super chests and get the might aura active. What I do is buff myself and merc, walk around looking for the camp fire and packs of monsters. If I find a pack, I remove his weapon and just hold onto it until might procs, then reequip him and head back to the WP for Trav.

This works, but can still be time consuming. It does give me time to look for the super chests though, which I don't really mind...
